Yezl S5 stainless steel light

Just some quick thoughts and measurements.

Here are the numbers:

The first 14500 cell I tried cut in its protection circuit at 1:05. Because of this light's design current draw will be more difficult than usual to measure. See my review of the Trustfire F22 (Which I still really miss and hope that it'll turn up - it may even be in my car which is currently away undergoing major surgery).

Hmmm so low mode is about 20% of High?

Treat high on a 14500 with this one as a few seconds at a time Turbo mode. This guy gets really hot at the head end on high with a 14500 - the F22 is probably a better balanced design but who cares when this one gives 100 lumens more? But seriously, this one will cook its LED and driver if left on high with a 14500 - after 2 minutes on the lightbox the head was too hot to touch. The body hadn't heated up at all. It is a non-magnetic stainless steel which often means a better grade of steel.

OK, pictures. Which for some reason weren't playing in Safari, but are working just fine in Firefox. Will try again with Safari in a minute. The picture properties dialog box was coming up blank in Safari. And now it is working properly - Probably a WebKit bug - Safari had been running for 43 hours before I quit and restarted it and has been heavily used.

Yezl S5

Personally, I prefer the more restrained engraving on the F22. The rest of the body is plain though. The engraving seems to be relatively shallow so might be able to be polished out if I cared that much.

I think this is nice, and more manufacturers should do it. There are springs at both ends so every AA/14500/whatever I threw at it went in nicely and worked. This is not the case with many other AA lights and AA lengths seem to vary quite a lot.

Switch end spring.

Head end spring. Soldering is cleaner than many.

I'm pretty sure this body came off the same production line as the Trustfire F22 - its Klingon bezel (Thanks Al for that memorable description) fits perfectly though I still have no intention of using it. See the F22 review here for details. Since it is the same body as the F22, this one is a large light for an AA light and a heavy one too.

The LED is well centred in the head.

And it tailstands well though it doesn't come with the very nice lanyard that comes with the F22 from DX.

I suspect current draw is going to be on the high side, but will need to test this once I've built something to hold it all together while i do so.

The switch is exactly the same as the F22 and if hit off-centre will balk a bit. It took me about 2 seconds to remember this and for it to cease to be a problem.

Switch end - and yes, it tailstands very well.

Forgot to mention:

No disco modes, just high medium, low which is very good.

It weighs 89g without a cell in it.

The mode spacing with a 14500 seems about right to me - NiMH modes could maybe use a bit wider spacing.

I think with all these comparisons to the F22, there is going to be another one in my future - I think it is a better balanced design than this one - though the Yezl is in a different brightness league comparable to all my other R5's.

If the switch fails is it possible to change it without a hammer and pliers?

Man, that is one sharp looking stainless steel light but I think I'll get the F22 instead.

It looks like there are indentations either side of the switch to unscrew it with some circlip pliers.

I put a 14500  flame trustfire battery  in the B2S and B9 lights  made from the same company last night and all i can say is ....WOW...i've never seen a AA light so bright. they both run as bright as the yezl z-1 /18650/ or any xpg r5 ever run  in anything..

My seat of the pants lumen guess is .. double the output ... like 170 lm. to 290lms.//crazy brite AA lite

So much so that like mr. administrator said ..20% on low ??

so 20% of 170 is 35 lumens .. a little too much for gotta go to the bathroom light but bearable

BUT at double it's unusable as a low light  he's right 60 lumens is a medium  not a low ..60 lumens was a surefire 4 years ago

these lights are crazy bright Smile

Just discovered that the envelope from cnqualitygoods contained a small bulge. Eventually found that the light does ship with a Klingon Bezel. If does horrible things to the beam, just like it did on the F22.

Oh, and the lanyard from the Mr.Lite J4 or the BLF light works very well with this light.
