Using 18650 Charger for smaller Li-Ion Batteries

Hey there, do you think using an 18650 Charger will work for Li-Ion batteries smaller than 18650? Such as 14500, 16340, 10440, etc. Provided that there is a conductive spring/material that can handle the charging current and connects the batteries to the charging terminals. I have an Soshine S2 V3 18650 charger and I know many of you would just tell me to buy a specific charger designed for smaller batteries, but I’ve got a few reasons why I don’t want to buy one.

But anyway, speaking theoretically, It should work as with any li-ion rechargable battery, they charge up to about 4.2V and regardless of battery size, the charger would cut off at that voltage once it’s full.

Tell me what you guys think….I don’t want to waste more money on another charger. I’ve spent too much money on flashlights, modding and DIY.

Thanks!

All LiIon chargers uses the same algorithm, but not the same charge current. Generally the charge current must be lower than the capacity of the battery, i.e. a 700mAh battery must be charged with less than 700mA. For some batteries this limit is much lower.

This means that a 0.5A charger can be used for anything larger than 16340/14500, and a 1A charger can only be used for 18500/18650 or larger.

In my charger reviews I usual list the most common sizes a charger can handle.

Oh thanks, I never thought of that. I guess that’s the only piece of info I didn’t take into account. Many thanks!
