turnigy accucell 8 charger??

I am looking at getting a smart charger for several applications

1 - charging nimh packs of 9 and 16 aa cells (both in fivemega carriers)
2 - charging li-ions of various sizes and maybe some small groups 4-6 in parallel in the future

i found this charger http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7523&aff=261539

can anyone comment on this charger? i found quite a bit on the small version on blf and people seem to like it… $42 is not expensive to me… i was looking at several chargers today at over $250… and then i thought… why not head over to blf and pick their brains because i really dont feel like spending hundreds of dollars on a charger… i would feel comfortable spending up to about $75

what power supply do i need for this charger?

is this charger easy enough to figure out? I am fairly comfortable with electronics, but i dont want to have to decipher chinglish instructions to try and charge a battery and then have it go nuclear because i selected 4.2v/cell for nimh or something

thanks for any help in advance

Brilliant little charger/discharger, i bought one to balance charge my 6s lipo bike light battery
i run mine on a motorcycle battery hooked to a 1.5A charger……
and with an 18650 battery holder, i discharge my flashlight batteries at 1A to find the capacity!
…highly recommended!!

If you are willing to go up to a $75 budget, then take a look at the iCharger 106B+. Higher reconfigurable charging and discharging rates, etc. So far no counterfeits on this brand, a lot better quality, IMO. You may search this brand and model about user reviews on both CPF and BLF search bars. You will need an outboard PS on this one.

ill check that one out thanks!

edit: where did you get the power supply?

I have had that turnigy charger for about 10 months now and it works perfect, would not hesitate to recommend it to you, does charge up to 36v in series from a 12v input! Not many budget chargers can do that.

I would say go for it!

I use for a power supply a modified Dell server power supply that can deliver up to. 120 amps at 13.8 volts, costed me about $30 to make and supplies all the amps I could ever need.

The iCharger has a dedicated PS at about $60… I have 2, one from an old PC and the other is an old-style, heavy-duty DC ps, true 15A, 13.6vdc used during the VHF/UHF transceiver days which are hardly used nowadays. Someone in your place might be glad to part with it!

i think i am going to go with the turnigy accucell 8 …. it seems to be able to do everything i need, and will ever need for that matter… its about 55% the cost of the icharger 106b as well… just going to hunt for a power supply and then going to pull the trigger later today!

thanks for all the input blf! i love this place

i am looking at this power supply

will this do the trick??

The one you linked to is an archived product, and will never be in stock @ HK anymore.

thanks!

i doubt i will ever need more than 105watts even though the charger is rated at 150w… i dont even use lipo cells… the biggest pack i will be charging is 16aa nimh (19.6v) and i will probably charge is at 200ma since its 16 cells (0.1c)… even at a quick charge at 1a that would only be ~20watts

lol… shipping is not cheap… $30 for 21 day delivery or 42 for 3 day… i opted for the 3 day since I have insurance and tracking… about $100 shipped for charger, power supply and adaptors

thanks again blf~!

+1 on any of the icharger units. But you can do far worse than the Turnigy you linked. They are not difficult to use but do require some care and attention to ensure that you use the appropriate settings. This is a good thread about hobby chargers and serial charging.
