I've not tested the Defiants runtime, but they claim ANSI 4 hours (a 2D LED Mag is what - 9hrs ANSI rated):

With 4000mAH NiMH batteries, I get a solid hour and forty five minutes from my Defiant. But, as is the case with NiMH, this is 1:45 at pretty much full brightness. I haven’t tried the light with alkaline batteries. But I find it hard to believe that it would really run four hours on alkalines. And if it does, then, given the nature of alkalines, for VERY little of that time will you be getting anything close to 550 lumens.

Anyway, as far as LED Mags, has anyone actually tried dropping an XM-L into one? I know that Malkoff makes XM-L drop-ins for incandescent mags. But it doesn’t seem like you hear much about modding the LED Mags. Is there something about them that precludes this sort of modification?

Without lamps, there’d be no light.

I  believe its just the cost. Why buy an LED Mag to mod when you can get the Incan. Mag for 1/2 the cost. You still need a custom heatsink. You can also buy Mag LED reflectors from www.zbattery.com for $2. oldbobk should chime in on his experiments. I don't see why a direct drive XM-L wouldn't work.

I could have sworn that the 2D pro had HAIII anodizing…

My gratitude to those who are willing and able to help others (in whatever way you can)! Being human is more than just existing for yourself. Smile

I was at Costco today. Noticed that it’s now at $22.97. Looks like they dropped the price on 9/3/13…
