Charging a mobile phone/camera with a 'battery' charger ...

If I have a, say, NiteCore Intellicharger i4 V2 Charger could I use it to charge a mobile phone or digi camera ? If so, how.

Assuming the battery is either a 1S nimh (1.2 volt) or li-ion (marked as lion and 3.6 or 3.7 volts) then yes it can be done. You would simply attach positive to postive to and negative to negative.

No disrespect to Scaru (I mean, who wants to fight with a man wearing a diaper!), but I read the question as “can I charge the phone”, not, “can I charge the battery”.

If it’s “can I charge the phone”, then the answer depends on the voltage that your proper phone charger puts out. Even then it’s a bit suspect, as a battery charger has strange ramps to the voltage/current that your phone might not like. Not sure exactly about the circuitry in the Nitecore, so ymmv.

If Ruffles is right, then that is bad idea. Most of those things require 5 volts, which the nitecore can't put out.

I was referring to the batteries. Assume the cell phone & digi cam have Li-Ion batteries.
Is there some sort of ‘adapter’ that allows you to attach a micro USB connector to the charger ?
A camera battery can easily be taken out, so any ‘adapter’ for a external battery ?

Are you looking for something like this? Portable Universal USB Battery Charger w/ Keychain for Cell Phone / Digital Camera
Tho its works independent from your NiteCore Intellicharger. All of the devices that will hold onto a mobile phone’s battery in order to charge it will be independent & not need the NiteCore Intellicharger.

Instead of making or buying crazy adapters, why not just get a Miller ML-102?
I’m sure there is some underlying point I am missing…

I did this once:

I just attached directly to the cell, bypassing the on board circuitry.
It worked fine, but didn’t solve the problem I was having with my phone… :frowning:

How did it taste?

Needed more salt.

I am using an universal cell phone battery charger to charge both cell batteries, and also small camera batteries. They both work OK. Easy and practical.
Mine is very similar to this

I can now see a use and inspiration. I charged some camera batteries last night with an i2 and some test leads with a magnet because the wife couldn’t find the camera cable.

6 months ago, after charging my ITouch with the wall charger, it was very hot, so hot that when I turned it on it was in protection mode because of the heat. I have seen this happen during the summer if I left it on the dash. Anyway, it will not charge now through the port. It is not the charger but rather something internal. So I opened it up and soldered wires to the battery and brought them outside of the ITouch so that I can charge off of the WF-139

actually some of the cheaper 18650 chargers ARE camera battery chargers with an 18650 adapter on top of the charger

The charger on the left is the battery charger for the Panasonic camera that took this picture. Other cameras would have a different clip on to fit their battery. The charger on the right is the same charger with an “18650” clip on.

Here is a pic of the bottom, the 18650 charger even has a sticker that says it is a camera battery charger!

Millions and millions of these are produced to charge all sorts of batteries, therefore economy of scale allows the cheap price.

That's looking good to me. I have an external battery charger for my cell phone batteries, but the charge current seems to be 250 mA or lower.

I’ve seen this kind of charger countless time in my travel in asia. Back in the time each cellphone brand have their own charging port and when you lose the charger, with this kind of charger you can move the pin so it adapt to the battery.

In my case, the usb port is broken, so I can only charge the battery externally.

Which phone? If you’re really lucky the usb could be easily replaceable. The incredible 2 had its usb port on it own small plug in board. If only that was more common.

Or you could just get a TP4056 Li Ion charging USB PCB module

And build you something like this

But with a connection to the Li Ion battery from your phone

Changing the usb port would be nice.

My cell phone battery has tiny blade connections which are hard to work with. I have a LipoNano charger that I wanted to do that with. To make it work, I'd have to make something with a u-channel to hold the contact points together, and a rubber band to secure that to the battery. Here's what it looks like.
