Turnigy Accucell 6

Hi guys i got one of these chargers a couple of days ago and i've been having an issue with it, I can't get it to go into AUTO mode i can only select MANUAL no matter how hard i try AUTO just doesn't seem to come up.

Anybody else have this charger and can shed some light on the issue.

I have the instructions so i know i can do it.

NiMH? Because my Accucell 6 (also came this week) charged 4xAA batteries in series only in Manual mode. I don't know if it needs a balance port for things to go Auto. I didn't need full cells so I gave up earlier than they were full so couldn't see if they terminate without problem.

At risk of reviving an older post I thought, as a recent buyer of an Accucel 6 I thought I'd address how to get it from MANUAL to AUTO for Ni-Mh charging.

I'm mid way through a charge at present so hopefully it will make sense as I can't go into my Accucel 6 to refer.

Anyway, when you're in the NiMh area and then you're at the 'NiMh Charge' screen - it will say NiMh Charge in the top left corner - then MAN (indicating manual) in the top right...then in the bottom right where will be a number of amps e.g. 1.0A

You press the START/ENTER button until you have this number flashing - and are able to move it up/down with the +/- keys.

NOW whilst this is flashing you press + and - at the SAME TIME for around a second...it should then change to 'Aut' rather than 'Man'.

Its really beyond me why this wasn't addressed in the manual - with the widespread use of this charger I'd really have thought that there'd be a wiki or similar put together by users.

Hope this helps, Cheers, Nick :-)

You guys are killing me this charger has an auto mode. I have had mine for almost a year and never knew. What exactly does the auto mode do?

Its a tad annoying isn't it! As I said its not like its an obscure model - is so popular so you'd think anything it can do is VERY well known and easy to find - but no....

Well I've literally only had it one day so I'll try and explain best I can...if you set MANUAL for Ni-Mh you have to set the amperage that the selected voltage is pumped into the cells - so for example and to keep it simple you're charging 2 x AA (lets assume 2000mAh capacity) - wired in series - so you'd have selected 2.4v and then perhaps you want to charge at 0.5c so you've selected 1.0A.

So the Accucel in MANUAL mode will constantly pump the 2.4v in at a rate of 1.0A until it gets the Delta V trigger.

Whereas on AUTO it uses the amperage you select as a MAXIMUM rate - and will using its internal sensors vary the amperage rate throughout the charge but will NOT go above the maximum level you specify.

This is probably a good thing as lets be frank, the vast majority of users don't know the actual capacity of their NiMh batteries (they NEVER meet whats written on the side unless you do lab type break-ins) and then they suffer increasing internal resistance - so manually setting with NiMh is very imprecise - better to let the Accucel use some kind of sensing to vary the charge down if it deems this better.

Haha but as I said this is based on 1 days uses and also a lot of reading - but I'm thinking AUTO mode for NiMh makes a lot of sense.

Hope that helps...

PS. Maybe we should try and get a thread going with some Accucel 6 tips, tricks or similar that users have found? :-/

Unbelievable, this is an awesome feature I never knew existed thank you so much for sharing this information it was very helpful.

i have this charger for almost 2 year i usually use the charger for lipo battery and never found the AUTO in NIMH mode. thanks for the info

thanks nikko
