How to make this a thrower.

I have one of these and I it replaced the driver with a 9A KD driver.
I measured that there is 8.7 amps going in to the 3 banks of 3 XML leds.

It is direct drive from 3 x 26650 Soshine cells which I had to remove the protection to maintain the 9A draw.

yes it is amazing to have OTF 6000 Lumen(+_) BUT it is a flood.

My Friends Fenix tk75 with 2600 lumen still out throws this light.

What can I do to make it a better thrower?

I am considering de-doming the 9 LEDs but what else will help?

Can I fit 9 narrow lenses? is there a better reflector that I can buy somewhere?

Any ideas?

If it was me I would replace XMl’s with xpe2 on copper stars.
Lets assume that each XML gets 1AMP giving slightly less than 400 lumen,
Xpe2 at that current should give about 320 lumen, total loss of lumens 9x70ish=630 but you gain ALOT of surface brightness.

It’s not going to be a thrower no matter what you do. You could get more throw but it’s still not going to throw really far, the reflectors are too small to focus the beam for really long throw. It uses brute strength to throw as far as it does. If you want it to throw farther you can do it at the expense of the great flood you are getting right now. Remove the leds and either de-dome them by soaking them is gasoline or replacing them with XP-G2’s dedomed and on copper sink pads. It’s still not going to be a great thrower and I could make something as simple as a Small Sun ZY-T08 outhrow it no matter what you do because of the small size of the reflectors. Notice the size of the reflectors on the TK75.

edit: One more thing, if you do put XP-G2’s in it you will not end up with a hotspot that is complete either, it will have holes in it that is why it won’t throw that far. I put 6 dedomed XP-G2’s in a 6T6 I took them right back out and used them for other projects. Although after that I de-domed 5 of the 6 T6’s and now I have a flooder with a little more throw and a nice neutral tint. I currently have no driver in it either, direct drive with only 6T6. I also have a 9xT6 and it came with a great driver and smacks the 6T6 on direct drive so I’m not messing with it.

Each LED is getting closer to 3 amps, not 1.

You are right, I messed up, missed that it is 3X3 configuration and not parallel connection.

So he could try XPG2 on copper, maybe even with dome removed.

The reflector will be a limiting factor, though.

Yep he could try but it’s going to be an ugly beam because there will be gaps. As soon as he goes white wall hunting he will see the dark spots inside the hotspot. I tried it and it was a waste of time. Although de-domed T6’s was actually nice because it throws a little farther and the tint is nicer. Plus I can 100% promise that right now he is already having major heat issues even his batteries are heating up super fast and probably scarring the snot out of him to the point where it’s only good for a few minuets at most and then you pull it open and have a hand full of very hot batteries and the head of that plunger is impossible to touch. But it’s fun to see how far you can push it.

The point of this light is to impress and it does that. But more throw will be nice.

I noticed that I can adjust the space for the reflector and add up to 5mm more space. I was hoping there are optical accumulators or maybe even a reflector that will work better.

At this moment the LEDs are being pushed down on the base of the head with the reflector.

De domeing seems to be the only way really.
