Test / Review: Soshine 26650 4200mAh (Black)

Soshine 26650 4200mAh (Black)

Official specifications:

  • Battery Capacity (Mfg Rated): 4200 mAh
  • Battery Chemistry: Li-ion
  • Battery Feature: Protected Rechargeable
  • Battery Form Factor: 26650
  • Battery Maximum Voltage: 4.2 V
  • Battery Rated Voltage: 3.7 V
  • Brand: Soshine

These batteries are marked with a slightly higher capacity than usual and they do live up to it.

The protection can handle 8A in peaks, but will trip at sustained 7A. The batteries has slightly different capacity.

Conclusion

The cells has acceptable performance up to 5A, but I will not recommend using them at higher currents.

Not bad at almost 4,500mAh!

Thanks for the review!

Same here. I figured they’d be like the Palight 26650 with only 2200mAh. Thanks for the review!

I almost ordered some of these, I’m definitely ordering some now as I have a few lights that could provide a home for them.

Thanks hkj.

Thanks for doing the test, i am about to buy my first 26650 light, thanks to your tests I can buy the right battery :-)

I noticed these and wondered about them. Thanks for doing the review.

Thank you for the test…
I had hoped these had better performance above 5A. I ordered and just quite recently received 3 of them for my Fandyfire 9-XML light since Werner seemed to have good experience pushing them to 9+ amps in his light 9XML- emitter light(modded for less resistance).
Stock, my light is doing 6 amps with fresh batteries. 4,5A when each cell is down to about 4,89V.
Id guess Id better just avoid improving resistance in that light when using those batteries? :frowning:
In my light, based on the graphs, it seems upgrading to XM-L2 is not that beneficial either due to voltage sag (I was not sure I would bother with that anyway). But the way I see it, there would not be much to gain in terms of output compared to cost. Anyone agree/disagree?

The batteries are very long, so in my light I cant tighten the tailcap 100%, they barely fit in some of my chargers that take quite long batteries. (Xtar SP2, Nitecore I4 and a charger from intl-outdoor that takes up towards 32650). Actually, before i “squeezed” them a little in my Fandyfire 9-XML, I would almost say that in some of the chargers they did not fit properly, once squeezed a little bit (im guessing every battery “shortened” by 0,1-0,3mm), they barely fit… Btw, I do not tighten the tailcap hard on them, squeezing them hard on purpose. I just noticed they fit slightly better in the chargers after I had used them in the light.

People considering these should make sure they have a flashlight with space for a long battery, along with a charger that support long batteries.

When that is said, are there any better protected 26650 batteries out there? More suited for 7 amps?

From what I could find in HKJ's comparator, at 5A the Efest IMR 3000 seems to hold a higher voltage, but for a shorter time. At 7A and above the Efest seems to sag quickly, but is flatter overall. I just ordered some of these:

I received a pair of these batteries yesterday, ordered them from gearbest a month or so ago.
i tested them in my opus C-3100, 2A charge, 1A discharge

-battery A had 4469 mah.
-battery B somehow disconnected during the final stage of discharging. they started discharging at the same time, and after ~3-4 hours when i checked them battery B had 0.1 V higher voltage. and when battery A was done discharging, battery B still had some power left. then half an hour later the slot with battery B showed ‘null’. so i’m not sure, maybe the protection circuit tripped?

anyhow, they’re 4450+mah, which is nice considering they’re advertised as 4200 mah batteries

Great review as always

Big ol’ beefy batteries…not high current but good daily drivers

Excellent!
