WTB: 3D Mag heatsinks

I know there's a guy at the 'other place' who makes and sells these but I'm not a member over there and have no desire to be... anybody have one or a few laying around unused, or willing to order a few and resell me a pair? Looking for the plain AL version for the current-gen D cell LED Mag.

Where are you located?

I make them myself. If I am not mistaken I have a brand new one, never used laying around some where.
It uses a set screw to set the height in a mag tube and is made for a rebel reflector. Just let me know if you need it.

.

Oops, southern USA.

Cool! Does it still focus or is it fixed? Meaning, does the reflector hole have to be enlarged, what's the dimensions on the center pedestal?I haven't decided on a reflector yet, I have both the plastic Mag LED reflectors and the not quite as deep AL 52mm SST50 reflectors, both work good.

I had decided to make one and had the AL bar stock in my ebay cart since forever, putting it off thinking about having to work on such a huge chunk in a drill press with little end mills is a great motivator for procrastination.

if you want to go c cell, I have a heat sink with pedestal for use with either a stock reflector with cam cut off or an after marked aluminum reflector with removable cam

it was made by VoB and I wont be using it

Nope, don't have any C cell stuff. What are the rough outside dimensions? It might could be re-purposed into something else.

I will measure it when I get home. I'd say a rough guestimate is 26mm

I’d be interested in purchasing 2 or 3 of these, send me a PM if your interested.

Thanks

Comfychair, I do still have the heat sink. I actually found it. I use to make two or three of these a week to sell in XM-L Maglite’s.
Sales for Maglite’s with XM-l”s has fallen to nothing. I guess pretty much everyone I know who wanted one already bought one from me. I’am sorry to say that I probably want be making anymore of these. It takes me several hours to make one like this. I always sold it with the Maglite so more of the (time) cost could be absorbed. This one was one I made just as a backup when in case someone was in a hurry. Its sat in a drawer for about a year. The guy that I know that sells these on CPF I’m pretty sure has these made in a machine shop that’s probably using a CNC lathe. So if he ordered in large quantities he could reduce the cost for each one. There’s no way I can compete with his price because each one of mine are hand made so to speak.
.
So comfychair needed one so I thought why not get rid of it. It has a 14mm diameter pedestal with a 1 mm height. So there is some focusing ability. I designed it to work with a rebel reflector and has a set screw so that the height can be adjusted in the mag tube. The back opening is 16.2 mm deep with a 29 mm opening so most drivers should fit potted in.
.
If you are interested Comfychair PM me for the details.
If he is not interested, next in line in this thread will get it.

comfy, it is 26mm give or take a fraction. I think I am going to set it up with a nanjg and a xml2 t6, and put it up for sale in a day or two

@moderator007

Out of curiosity, do/did you ever make them for pre "D Series" maglites? ie The older D maglites without the D in the serial number. I have a couple of '80s 5Ds that I occasionally think I should do something with.

I've looked at the Malkoff dropins a few times but never quite pushed the button.

If I remember correctly I did do one that the guy had for 20+ years. I do remember having to order him a switch because his was shot. I Think the switch was different on his. As for the heat sink I make everyone to fit the light they go in so there is minimum clearance. To make one for a mag I don’t have in hand. It would probably end up with a little slop or have to be sanded to fit. Maglite’s tube diameters do vary a little. I think the way the other guy does it, is he use a little smaller dimension that should fit any Maglite but could have slop with larger diameter tubes. Where only talking a few thousandths of a inch here but 3 or 4 thousandths under the tube size and it will fit perfect. 6 or 7 thousandths and it may start to get a little slop. Nothing a little thermal paste wouldn’t cure but the tighter fit means a smaller gap of thermal paste. May not make a hill of beans difference but I do try to make them as tight as possible without having to drive them in and out.

Would it make sense for somebody to start up a group buy for these or convince moderator007 to do a new run? I'd be in for probably 5 of them, 4 for the lights I have now plus a spare, and there's interest from others as well.

Comfychair I’am sorry to say that I can’t, just to much time involved for me. If it was winter time I might consider a few but summers are very busy for me. Most of my free time I have goes into making other custom made parts for auto enthusiast.

If you decide to take my offer on the purchasing the heatsink, you could take the heat sink to a CNC lathe equipped machine shop and have them copy the dimensions or change any thing as you see fit. You have my permission. Or if you would like for someone else to do it, that would be fine also. To be fair you where first in line on this heat sink. PM sent.
.
Note for someone that might be willing to do a group buy: If I actually offered to make these, from just the request by members here that have seen this thread I would guess to say selling 50 to a 100 wouldn’t be a problem.

PM replied - man oh man I gotta tell you though, I'd be willing to bet there ain't a CNC anything within 50 miles of here. East central Mississippi, nearly at the exact midpoint between the gulf coast, Jackson, Memphis, and Birmingham, 90 miles from anywhere. We're doing good to have 'lectricity and even that's pretty iffy sometimes.
