G’day,

I want a new charger. I have settled on two, either the Xtar XP4 or the Thrunite MCC-4. Whilst a hobby charger would be good I’m not interested in one at this current time.

Anyway, I have read the reviews from HKJ and others but just can’t make up my mind. The problem is there are parts of each which I like and don’t like.

XP4 - selectable charging current, I think it’s charging system is a bit better quality and I can order it from fasttech and get them to ship some batteries in it at the same time. But I don’t like that I will have to use a power adaptor with it because it uses an external power pack. My OCD dislikes this greatly!

MCC-4 - internal power supply so I can just use an Aus appliance cord, screen which indicates voltage. But I don’t like the cheap spring system to activate 1A charging and I can only seem to get it from the Thrunite store on eBay.

My only requirements is it can charge 4x 18650s at 1A or 2x 26650s at 1A.

So if you were in my shoes which would you be getting?

Price is negligible and I want it now not when Kreisler’s “dream” charger is available.

Cheers.

haha no doubt if your “dream” charger lives up to the hype you have created I will probably get one of those as well anyway. But I need one of these at least for the interim :stuck_out_tongue:

So Kreisler besides your dream charger which would you be getting out of the two?

haha ok then.

Well it seems like the XP4 is certainly the favourite.

In what way was it bad?

So what happens if the Dream Charger turns out to be nightmare? Will you be brave enough to say something bad that may hurt its sales and feeling? haha

If they all start catching fire it will just be re-named to “The Dream Heater” :stuck_out_tongue:

So let me get this straight… you are actually admitting that your reviews are biased and positive because you want free samples?? Well at least you are honest…uh…dishonest… err…uh…dishonestly honest? :~

I just voted for the MCC-4, mainly because I’ve had the XP4 now for about a week, and am feeling that probably should’ve gotten the MCC-4 instead.

Being able to select the current is nice, but other than that, I don’t think I’ll use the USB output capability or the restore functionality, so oither than that, the XP4 is just an “Ok” charger.

I also have a Jetbeam i4 Pro (newest version) and I missing having more status with the 3 LEDs (the XP4 just has one, which is red/green), and it’d be nice to have the LCD display with the MCC-4.

I also think that the bays on the XP4 seem kind of closely spaced. I have a harder time pulling a battery out when all 4 bays are populated… just an impression, I haven’t measured.

Also, the XP4 has a wall wart for power, whereas the i4 just plugs directly into the wall, so it takes less space on the wall plate.

So overall, I feel like, at this time anyway, I should’ve gotten the MCC-4.

I think that an HONEST review, even if it contains some negative opinions, actually serves both the sellers and the buyers. If taken the right way, it serves sellers in that they can improve their product. It obviously serves potential buyers so that they can make their decision on buying with “eyes open” about potential problems.

I don’t remember for sure, but one example was a recent set of reviews of one of the pre-production MT-G2 lights, which had some opinions about the size of the control ring, and I think the manufacturer fixed that in the final product.

Just my opinion.

I don’t believe in playing any games except in getting a manufacturer to send a light for review in the first place. Once I have a light the chips fall where they may, free light or not. I don’t care if I never get another light from that manufacturer. It’s my name on the review, not theirs. They can either take my review and any negatives I find and improve on those items like Ohaya said, or continue to sell an inferior or ill-designed product. I’m not going to write a falsified review and sell a lie to my fellow flashaholics. There are no games to play. People will learn that I tell the truth as I find it in my reviews and will trust them. Manufacturers at that point who believe in their products will continue to provide products for review or not - their choice. I’ve never been an ass kisser and it has limited my corporate career to a point but I don’t care. I can’t be a yes man or play the game.

People who do play games with reviews to keep manufacturers happy and keep the free lights flowing will be found out in time and readers will no longer give a rat's @ss what their opinion of a light is and that reviewers reviews won't matter to anyone. Will those reviewers care? Probably not since getting free lights is all they care about.

So, say while you are reviewing a charger provided to you by a manufacturer and you find a problem that you are guessing can be fixed by them, is it better to let them know about it and then give them lead time to fix it or better to just include that in your review and publish it ?

Review for Xtar XP4 is here I am disappointed :frowning:

+1

Still very much prefer dedicated charger for NiMH & Li-Ion

It does serve people in the game, it serves those who are thinking about buying the product, i.e. almost everyone on this forum! Many people including myself rely on reviews when making a decision about whether or not to purchase a light. If I buy a light and then find out about a number of problems with it once I already have it in my hands simply because the reviewer omitted that information for their own benefit, then I would be pretty annoyed! Frankly, it is quite disappointing to read about your attitude towards reviewing products.

I completely agree with JohnnyMac on this one. Kreisler, remind me to take your reviews with a pinch of salt in the future.

Is this the final honest conclusion, or it’s just to make xtar happy?

Are you admitting that you let Xtar and/or other vendors dictate what you cannot say, both within and outside of a review?

Aren’t you the same person that makes snarky remarks about other members when they post affiliate links or non-affiliate links to good deals?

That wouldn’t happen to be a Nitecore i4 would it?

I had forgot all about that one.
