Article re: new battery technology

They should sell them to hobbyists.

Let us wait until the hype cools down and see what is left of this. Every few months there is a new claim of at least 5 times the energy density of present li-ions, with a very promising time-path, usually the hype just dies out.

Problem with high energy density is going to be — wait for it — terrierists will use them for hand grenades.
There’s no product out there that can’t be misused by some nut.

Hell, if we’d had security a hundred years ago, nobody would be allowed to have gasoline.

And steam boilers — they blow up!

And horses — they kick people!

I dunno, we need high energy density storage for a lot of reasons. But I’m not optimistic everyone’s smart enough that nobody will screw up using it.

Quite true, but hey, every time you get outta bed you start taking risks.

The way I see it is that the idiots banning, limiting and legislating are often acting in response to compensation claims and lawsuits from some other idiot that can't accept that he was careless or made a mistake. Lawers and our legal system being what they are, someone is always gonna take the view that the great and unspecified "they" should have made it safe for the terminally clueless to walk the earth.

But we are getting OT now

Why? It's not up to us when this is produced and sold by retailers. Any discussion is irrelevant until it's produced, so when we talk about it doesn't really matter until then. Still, I'd like to see these sold to hobbyists so that more people can get experience with it, and possibly recommend their companies to use it for big projects. I'd hate to see another company do it like A123.

I fear it may be locked up under patent protection and cost 5 times market price if it pans out
