This one will get shut down quick! **Deleted**

Rich

That might get ya the boot. LOL I love it.

Ya done good.

But as I mentioned, that thread is not nearly as bad as this one

alright, I'll concur as well *delete*

AND THE SAME GUY STARTED BOTH THREADS!!!

(I may get the boot there too)

Tsk tsk tsk, living dangerously!

:O

;)

You rebel you!

I don't think your comment was offensive enough. If you want to get banned, you need to try harder!

Also, I would like to say that rich people that need titanium, 18k gold, or platinum flashlights are annoying, and can make me sick. dorpmuller is not rich, but he is Rich. And Rich people are sick! Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Google translate! :p

heh heh heh.... Smile Disadvantages/Advantages have been discussed before anyway on the other side...

But seriously, what's the MAIN advantage of Ti? Is it also scratchproof (can we HA it)? I know the weight is better, but then the weight of 6061 is not that high to begin with, and if designed properly it is real tough (check out Olight M20 warrior on youtube....shot with a 12 gauge at close range!). Someone tried on a Fenix and it withstood 20,000lb worth of crush.

But nowadays the Ti lights (SMALL!) really cost a lot.

Ti is like the most Scratch attracting material that you can ever use in a torch!!!

Heres my list...

Advantages of Ti

  • Its not thermally conductive
  • Attracts scratches like nothing else
  • Heavier than SS torches
  • Difficult to machine
  • Softer than steel
  • Expensive (financially exclusive)
These features make Ti a more desirable metal for torches! (seriously, all the features above make it more desirable.. we need to understand the following)
Its just a material for collectors, Much like a large watch collection of limited editions etc... or any other collection for that matter, based on the idea of Collecting, not on the premise of Function (including functional pricing).

Yeah I guess its a showpiece. Any $40 Ti lights?

Hardly, the usual alloys are extremely hard and a major pain to machine.

It has poor thermal and electrical conductivity
Is very, very hard - see the account round here of someone trying to machine out a TiKey to take a Cree LED. He had difficulties.
It is considerably lighter than stainless steel - typical stainless is in the 7500-8000kg per cubic metre, Ti is 4500.
It is considerably harder than most, non heat-treated, stainless steels. Which is why it is a pig to machine.
It certainly isn't cheap.
It also resists saltwater corrosion better than most metals.
It is twice the strength, for a given weight, than the usual aluminium alloys.
Stainless is also a poor conductor, harder to machine than aluminium, often easy to scratch but I like it. Stainless is a nicer colour than titanium which is a sort of deep grey that I personally find rather unattractive. But it can be anodised, which stainless can not.
Stainless steel is a lot cheaper though...

The iTP A3 Ti for $39.90. There is also the Fireworm CR2 Ti for $50 or the Fireworm H01 Ti headlamp for $53.

Threads like this makes BLF look bad, they aren't coming here to whine about "poor/dumbcheap people make me sick" so why do the opposite? It also makes CPF look tolerant because the post was immature and childish.

BLF vs CPF 0-1.

Man, those lights are ugly :Sp And those rich people are crazy S)

PS: you can find Ti A3 for less, btw.

Yep .

Yea, I guess should stop doing so. Lower cost lights have their place, more expensive lights have their place as well. I get both as long as they are good value. Laughing

There are 1k laser pointers! But the good thing is that some technology has come down enough to make it more accessible, eg a 1.2W 445nm can be had for usd135, 16340 batteries/charger included. They are shipped as parts (seperate), so without the label they will pass. But do be responsible users, they are extremely dangerous and the sellers do make it a point that the buyers understand esp for teenagers.

Agreed!

It's including international shipping and you don't need to use a CPF coupon. You still have a better offer?

(If from the US add VAT, customs and transportation fees for most of the EU citizens).

I guess your right, I need to check my materials info.. The Maratac AA SS is lighter than my D10 Ti, which are both heavier than my D10 Al.

Scratchwise, the SS seems more resistant to minor scuffing (from a practical point of view), but again this may be related to the fear I have of scratching up a not so budget torch.

Well said. Actually i was surprised the CPF "hate" threads kept going on. By doing so we are spitting up in the air and catching it by the naked eye on the way down. We can constructively bash CPF nazi policy on their forum for a laugh or two. At a certain point must come to a stop. By putting some effort doing an antiCPF propaganda we are clearly showing that evolution is going backwards or we did not learn much in the last century events...

Since i am at it... i also noticed (not the only one) that the BLF family has lost a bit of unity. It used to be one big family but lately the quality of posts seems to decline, hardly any1 posts good deals anymore. Group buys are hard to pull off (ask ledoman how hard he tried to get together enough orders for proven good XTAR batteries at a very attractive price).

I wonder if we do a group buy for a few types of neutral or warm emitters how it would end up...

For that alone CPF was awesome. Can't say for the rest.

Not sure I agree with that; there is a lot to like in terms of information over there and also group buys, but the community as a whole is not at all supportive. And very few people there will challenge the "rich and famous" in terms of their bias. That $30,000 thread was about the most ostentatious thing I have ever read.

I don't think it reflects on us here in a negative light. After all, it they were a wonderful community of supportive members over there, we all probably wouldn't be here at all.

Gregor has a point, I believe; I'm feeling the love but it is with a small group of specific members and post quality needs to improve.

From experiences over the last 25 years with my ex-wife, I've learned that apathy is much more powerful than hate. The former accurately indicates how much you (don't) care, the latter requires massive amounts of energy and reveals your true passion on the subject.

They are what they are over "there," and everywhere else for that matter. What matters here is how we conduct ourselves here. How we treat each other and the tolerance we exibit to an occasional faux pas. It also may be time for sb56637 to consider adding a moderator.
