trustfire TR- 001 charger

I've had this charger for 8 months and I like it .today I realized it charged cells independantly of one another .maybe all lithium chargers do and i just haven't been paying attention .

I have had one 16340 that was down pretty far and i wanted to recharge it but was waiting for the other one to need a charge as well , boy do I feel silly . This charger doesn't get much press but it does an admirable job and I'm happy with it's performance .

I have the Tenergy version of that charger and it works great I really like it. All my cells fit from 10440s all the way to protected 18650s, it doesn't heat up, it terminates right on the money every time plus it was really cheap.

Tr-001 , is un appreciated , I like mine , still my go to charger

I own one and I bought one for my mother. They both work fine.

TR-001 still overcharges the cells (atleast the charging voltage is too high even if the resting voltage may not be) and trickle charges forever, or?

These can still be used without too much problems, but there is no reason to buy them now when you can get the XTAR chargers relatively cheap.

If you monitor the charger , the TR-001 is fine ..

If you dont want to monitor the charger buy the Xtar ..

Or buy both ! [ yes I own both ] + a few others ...

There is a charger review on the way , but I have no time ATM to test it .. [ new one ]

We just saw the TR-001 for 5$ somewhere ..T-mart maybe ?

I dunno I'm not claiming to be the expert .but i'm buying a few more if i see them at $5.

I think you can find a lot of people on Blf who have this charger.. and like it

EDIT: I think maybe I'm draming OR it was on powerwholesale which bestinone threw out to tempt everyone and wouldn't let anyone actually get to the shopping cart to purchase these items ..sounds like a familiar trick >>>Dieno Dewrecked.

I like mine, stops at 4.2 everytime. I only charge when I will be in the area to pull them when the light is green (within an hour or so).

Ive had my tr-001 for over 2 yrs, it is now starting to overcharge. Time to get a replacement.

That is pretty good for 8 bucks, 2+years of trouble free charging.

Yeah i can't complain. I just bought two more off dx, now the wait begins.

Ive had mine for over a year, and love it. I ordered 2 more that should be arriving any day now, one for my brother (whom I'm setting up with a few 18650 lights) and a backup for me.

The TR-001 charger is the one most recommended in the e-cig forums here. But not one of them knows anything about what lithium ion cells can sometimes do when abused.

That said, it would appear that the charger doesn't normally abuse cells.

It chargers a little high .4.21 sometimes 4.22 but I only charge in front of me So they don't sit around being trickled at that rate . they come off the charger pretty fast after being finished charging.

Im a bit safety concerned.. and it seems like I need to get a liion charger some time soon.

I have read a bit about liion chargers and found out that the xtar wp2 seems to get pretty good reviews.

For what reason should I buy the xtar over this trustfire? (what safety reasons?)

Edit: Im only receiving a 14500 cell (included with a flashlight) and maybe want to have a 18650 in the future for my SF L2i with XPG R5...
Just though about adding this, as this may be important to decide which charger..

What I also like about this trustfire, is that it can charge 10440cells which one day I might get in the future, just for fun, if I keep on drinking these Flashoholic forum threads!

The Xtar is $17 dollars and it does not charge 16340 or 18350 batteries and the TR-001 charges all lion battery sizes I know of for $8 dollars. I would not trust a charger alone(unattended) with lions in it. I don't see any reason to spend the extra money on the Xtar it cost almost as much as a hobby charger and does not fit as many battery sizes as the TR-001 and they both do the same thing charge lion batteries that's it. I have the TR-001 and I really like it also so I can recommend it, if you want to spend more money buy a hobby charger my Imax B6 will charge/discharge anything for $30 bucks.

A lot of people like that charger. I got the TR-001 because Amazon had it and I did not feel like waiting an eternity to get it. If I am in a rush I still use the TR-001 but I still check my batteries when I use it every time and it still terminates right at 4.2. I really like the way the hobby charger trickle charges the last portion of the charge, the batteries definitely last longer if I use the hobby charger.

the nobby chargers are more than that when you add a power supply and leads or battery holders etc …40 is closer to the truth … i know i wanted one but can’t for the life of me figure out why >>:P

You can certainly NOT draw the conclusion that the TR-001 doesn't overcharge or trickle charge from that the fact(?) that the light turns green at 4.19-4.21. It can still (and probably does) use too high voltage during charging, even if the resting voltage is lower.

The TR-001 is also unsuitable for 10440 and will kill the cells in a number of charges due to the too high charge rate.

Also, if the poster was looking for safety, hobby chargers isn't it. I would go with the XTAR.

I don't know who you are saying recommended this charger based on resting voltage alone I certainly didn't.

I recomended this charger because mine delivers .385 amps at 4.213 volts time after time for the duration of the charge. I agree that is a little high for 10440s, but it has not adversely affected mine. Before I got a hobby charger I had no other way to charge my 10440s.

I don't own the Xtar charger so I can't comment on it, but I certainly would not spend twice the money on one because of the brand name Xtar being stamped on it.

None of these cheap Chinese chargers are inherently safe they need to be monitored and tested regularly.

I am personally more comfortable with my hobby charger, I feel it is the safest charger currently available.Turnigy Accucell 6

1.Being able to set the amperage for the specific battery.

2. Having an adjustable temperature monitor that attaches to the battery and shuts the charger off if the battery becomes to hot.

3. Having a time limit that you can set so it does not run indefinitely if you forget it's on.

I don't know what you would consider safe but I don't know of any charger that is safer.

I would really like to know more about the safety devices built into this Xtar that make it safer than my hobby charger.
