Ask for advices on this diving flashlight.

Had very few experiences with diving flashlight. Really confused by the infomation online. Cree XML, Lumens, and so on. I want to use it for scuba diving. Any good product suggestions? I searched in google and find this Pellor diving flashlight, is it a good deal?

Just don’t buy anything that comes with xxxFIRE batteries or charger, take some time and use the search function top left. You will find may usefull infromation.

This ought to save you a lot of money. Link here.

You can chose between warm and cool white too.

Plus aliexpress enforce a mandatory 45 day maximum delivery time on sellers and have decent buyer protection. No paypal accepted with most sellers though.

that's good advice by koyotee. What the BLF community has done here is make some of the best reviews and dialog on the net regarding dive lights (of course regular lights too). And you can find the best deals.

No, that light is not a good deal. Also, see this post. Same light, sold by different seller. - ok Ramblings beat me too it.

I highly recommend going rechargeable Li-ion, unless you travel a lot to dive, then you want batteries that you can find oversees - Alkaline.

LEDs: the Cree XM-L / XM-L2 is a really good emitter especially in lights with a bigger head, like a primary light or canister light. The LED puts out ~1100lm at Cree's recommended max ampere (3A), which light manufactures rarely exceed.

Many many dive lights use an XM-L.

The Cree XP-G2/XP-G is another good LED for dive lights. Better suited for the smaller lights. It throws well, but has around half the output of an XM-L at recommended max (1.5A)

Some use Cree XR-E which you'll hear in the 100+lumen range. Like the XP-G they are good for throw and cutting through muck, but even less lumens than the XP-G.

Most Chinese dive lights I've ever seen use some variation of a Cree LED.

Only a few use other LEDs like Luminus, for example Hollis (a canister light) and Light Monkey (can light)

Lumens: most lumen numbers are false. There are only a handful of dive light manufactures that use a standard like ANSI FL1

e.g. Xtar (read bottom) and Pelican. I always want to know OTF lumens... how many actual lumens are coming Out-The-Front.

Sometimes if I know what the measured tailcap current is, then I can estimate how many OTF lumens a light will put out.

Then candela or lux will give me an idea of how well the light "throws"

Recently I asked Brinyte what their ANSI rated lumens were for their dive lights. And because they have their own integrated sphere they gave me the figures (posted here). At 0:25-0:30 sec. into video you can see them using the sphere (youtube).

recommendations from Dive Matrix. And recommendations from here at BLF. On both of them I mention the new Stubby Impact light from DRIS.

Really thanks for your detailed reply, it helps me a lot. What do you think about the one that Ramblings recommend.

This is my opinion on SB post. Also Yupard is not on my list of great lights.

I recently watched a vid by Old-Lumens (here on BLF) regarding the terrible quality of one of their lights (see thread). I also bought (2) of their dive lights - when I received them I was so upset that I asked for a 100% refund. Lucky I didn't lose any money.

Did you read some of the high reviews from the buyers of that Yupard dive light? Just know that most likely those reviewers aren't flashaholics. This happens a lot with flashlight reviews on Amazon etc. They buy their first light with a Cree XM-L emitter and it's the brightest light they've ever seen. You'll have a better sense of what's good from the flashlight forums.

The ones I recommended are much brighter and more dependable - these features may not be important to every diver, especially brightness.

Did you see this line of lights? Securitylng thread

Take a half hour and read some of the dive light threads MRDdiver is in. Good info.
If you are willing to ‘screw around’ there are some decent lights available for a small price.
If you are not, get something solid with a known reputation.

Note-do NOT believe lumen output claims by the vast majority of Chinese vendors. Likely need to divide by 3. Any battery that is named *fire is probably semi-junk.

Thanks all you responses. I will carefully every link you guys mentioned. Really a lot to learn in the light. thanks again.

Hello everyone.
I am a diving fan in club ,before I used this above flashlight ~,

look nice, but the diving bright is not well ,when diving 50meter ,this light is more and more dim ,and I remove the battery parts , reflector cup is plastic, not aviation aluminum via hollowing out ,so the material cost is low ,but I felt that this price is desirable ,if you only use in the other lighting ,it will be good flashlight .

After I buy a kind of Cree XM-L U2*3 diving flashlight ,it can diving 150meter ,3800lumen , the head and tail are have the waterfoor O-ring ,but still have some defectives ,such as actually diving depth 120meter ,actually lumen 3600lumen,ect.

so ,in the market we are hard to find the actually diving parameter of the diving flashlight …….

wish everyboday have a good day

baby

hallo every one,i’m a diver in turkey,we use the 3*CREE L2 U2 led of canister light,it’s very nice.

I am also looking forward some diving flashlight, though I have a lot.
