Thrunite T10 on Alkalines?

Hi,

I’m looking at buying a new single AA torch and the reviews on the Thrunite T10 look promising. In the specs it says it works on NiMH and Alkaline, but how is the brightness and running time on alkaline batteries? Most people seem to use NiMH batteries.

Thanks.

I had a couple of T10 a while ago. They worked nicely with alkaline batteries. And were not noticeably dimmer, probably because they are not that bright either with NiMH (around 100 lumens?). They go a lot brighter with lithium cells (14500) but you lose the medium mode (medium mode will be as bright as high mode at around 350 lumens).
I have no idea what the run time would be though. Never cared about that. I only tried to use alka

Thanks for the reply, that sounds promising. I was going to get the T10 from eBay, but it looks like the listing has ended, so I will just have to wait now.

Beware of Alkaleaks! :open_mouth:

So today I grabbed my T10 (the 2016 XP-L version) and noticed that I could not change modes using the tail switch anymore, but it worked when twisting the head.

Then I opened it, removed the badly leaked Alkaline AA, and cleaned the inside of the tube.

Bad news : the tail spring popped out, it is going to be a PITA to re-solder it (the tail is not removable on this 2016 version) :person_facepalming:

Good news : the light is fully functioning again (just have to carefully put the unsoldered tail spring back at it’s intended location)

I can only imagine alkaline performing less well than NiMH on turbo; outcome should be a short runtime. On low and medium mode it performs about the same I think.

do yourself a favor and use NiMh or Lithium primaries

Yes I use Eneloops normally, except in this light I had put an older alkaline the other day, because I did not want to waste it :person_facepalming:

Lesson learned!
