Help me find a night stand light

I’m looking to get a light that can serve as something to have on my night stand. Here are my requirements:

- $15 or under

- Has a low mode 2 lumens or under

- runs on a single AA (don’t want triple AAA because I have more AA eneloops to spare)

- prefer aluminum

- able to tailstand

- no blinky modes

  • starts on low or moonlight

free international shipping is a plus since I don’t live in the states.

Hmm…. 54 views later and still nothing. If I bumped it up to $20, would it help? The non-negotiable really is the low lumens mode.

Make your own with an N-Lite driver @ 5mA.

I don’t know what shipping runs and this is $25 but is exactly what you’re looking for and of high quality - I own one and it’s a great bedside light fixed link

Your link says L10, but it leads to a 1-mode 160 lumen Ultrafire light. But yes, the L3 Illumination L10 is a pretty decent light… If only I can find a way to get it shipped internationally for free…

Closest I can think of to all those requirements, is if you can still find the promotional price on the Thrunite Archer 1A, and even that is a little more expensive than what you’re looking for.

Have a look at Thrunite’s T10/Saber
FF, low(ish medium) and high mode.

The 4 mode L3 10 looks nice. I though about it a while ago. Reminds me of a Supbeam L10.
But shipping was a deal breaker. Was 10$ or so, just checked: is 15$ now.

Without mode memory, for a night light sup-optimal, Olight i2 (hard to find a good price these days as the light seems to be discontinued) or i3s.

May check out Thrunite’s offers for the Archer 1 A (around 25$ plus delivery (Thrunite store, Amazon), or a ®CR123A/16340 if you already own a Li-ion charger, the Archer 1C for 23$, T20 for 17$ or T21 for 20$ … + shipping

I realize the $15 requirement is a pipe dream but it’s primarily because I’m currently living in Taiwan so unless global shipping is free (like FastTech), then I’m looking at more of a $30 light after shipping and tax. If I was still living in the states, I would just go ahead and order the L10 because I really like the simplicity of it while having a moonlight/firefly mode.

Just checked Supbeam’s page

Specifications:
1:Cree XP-G LED (R5) with lifespan of 50,000 hours
2:Four modes of output: firefly(0.09lumens 147hours)+ -> Low (30 lumens,
13hrs ) -> High (120 lumens, 1.5hrs) ->Strobe(120lumes,2.5hrs) *without
memory* (Tested with Ni-mh battery with actual capacity 2500mAh)

Nice

Contact Supbeam to get a dealers list in your area.

Sorry about that, link fixed

Supbeam website shows Ultrafire 1 mode light?

Edit

OK

I just sent an email to find out if there’s a local distributor in Taiwan or if they can ship here. A quick Google search shows there isn’t much…

SupBeam France (old stock; 5 mode???)

http://supbeam.fr/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=55

Sub-Total: 19.83€
Zone 5 (Weight: 90.00g): 4.20€
Total: 24.03€

Ca. 33$ incl. delivery to Taiwan.
I don’t know if you’ll have to pay import taxes.

Maybe it’s hard to find as they offer OEM production?

The L10 is a good choice at about $30, and is the backup to my V11R, which I think is the ultimate night stand light.

The Thrunite T10S is also nice at $40. It’s a stainless steel reverse clicky with moonlight mode and memory, just like its twisty cousin the T10 (Saber).

Ended up getting this guy from Fasttech… Probably not going to have the low lumens I want, but for the price and free shipping, I couldn’t resist. The low will have to be lower than the 25 lumens I’m currently stuck with on my old Inova X1.
C3 Cree XP-E

I’ve given a bunch of that model away as gifts and it’s a decent light. But the PWM on low made me nauseous so I didn’t keep one for myself.

I’ve always liked the appearance of that stainless steel C3, but it’s a bit large for its battery type and I’d have to replace the guts to give it decent modes… so I never bought one.

I normally use a 4-mode L3 L10-219 or a ZL SC52 as a night stand light; the SC52’s 0.34lm mode is enough to light the whole bedroom via ceiling bounce, and runs for a couple months per charge if I leave it on all night. The L3 L10 doesn’t have the crazy runtime, but it fits nicely into a pajama shirt pocket and has a nicer beam and doesn’t wake anyone with clicky sounds.

The V11R mentioned earlier would probably be good. I have a RRT01, which is similar but has no clicky button and gets much lower lows. Either one would be great in the middle of the night, but the runtime is a bit lacking.

(edit: I just noticed this was post #666 for me… not quite sure what to think about that)

Yeah, I would have really liked to have gotten the L10 but $8 compared to $35 after shipping costs makes it an easy choice. Especially since this would just serve as a night stand light. I ended up slipping in a Convoy S2 1050ma in the order too…. :zipper_mouth_face: again, couldn’t resist the price. 0:)

I’d keep my eyes on Wallbuys hourseckill promotions. They always have nice Fenix AA lights that have moonlight mode and memory for $10-20 and free shipping. If you have slow internet, don’t bother though. Stock is usually 1-2 pieces and if you don’t type in captcha fast enough, someone will get it before you.

My definition of a good nitestand light has always been it's ability to be unknockoverable .

Not a bad place for cr123/16340 lights

moonlight/low low under a lumen is important as well as no low PWM .

I like a forward clicky too
