Trustfire X100 vs Ak90 vs SUPERNIGHT(TM) 15 X CREE XML T6

Hi All

Somewhat a newbie here… I have been researching the last few Days on what to light buy.

I like Floody lights but with some throw to them. After reading threw a lot of threads I think I want one of these three….

Does anyone have an opinion on them and what would get the most bang for the buck so to speak.

With shipping they are all around $100.

Would love beam shot comparisons if anyone has 2 or 3 of these….

Thanks!!!

Well I just bought the Supernight off of Amazon as I wanted something new before the weekend…… Headed to a beach on the florida coast…. I hope this is brighter than my TR J –12. Looking forward to comparing the 2….

The AK-90 is a X6 on steroids. Relic38’s talked about it. But the X100 takes the same amount of batteries and comes with a nice looking case for the light.

None of the multi-emitter lights you mention will have much throw, they’re almost purely flood and only “throw-by-sheer-horsepower” lights. If you want some flood with great throw you need fewer emitters in larger reflectors. the BTU Shocker, the Fandyfire SP03, ect.

That is not entirely true, if you take modding into account. If you add even more horsepower and a turbocharger called “dedome”,
several multiemitters(4 to 12 emitters) can make 100 –170 kcan. I even got a 6x that makes more than 300 kcan 8)

I guess I wasn’t clear on my initial post….

I guess what I am looking for is flood first but which flood throws the farthest out of those three I listed…… (or is there something else in the $100 price range that is a better flooder than those 3 and will out throw them as well….)

Not sure I made myself any clearer… :0)

From reading many reviews of others Trustfire x100’s, I’d say its the winner for throw. And the winner for potential to mod and increase the LED current to increase output and deal with the heat over a reasonable time period. The 15x SHOULD out flood the x100 though, but many of the massive multi emitter lights are way under driven, and I have not seen much in the way its reviewed. AK90 would probably be easiest to follow someone else’s instructions to mod however, since some have done it here, and the end result should have significantly more output (maybe not throw still).

I also have NONE of these lights mentioned…search on here for x100 reviews and pics, there are some good ones. Also, search Sunsky.com if you are interested in the x100, I’ve been tempted to buy it there, less than $80 with shipping and includes two (albeit low quality) chargers.

You do not mention if you are planing to modify the light in any way, but if you are looking for the brightest out-of-the-box multi emitter light, as far as I know, the Nightfire NFT 90 and clones is the way to go. For better and worse, it is basically direct drive in high mode, so if you use high drain cells, it is downright nasty. Downsides are that direct drive is unregulated and therefore fades quickly and it has also got that annoying “next mode memory”. If you go for one of these, make sure the retaining ring for the driver is well tightened as the driver needs all the cooling it can get.

Well I got the supernight 15x yesterday and it didn’t work. I tried it with tenergy 18650, ultrafast 18650, as well as kegos and ultrafire 26650. So back to the drawing board….

Did you try using a short lead between battery and battery tube? If it works this way,you could open the tailcap and make sure the swich board has proper earth contact. If your cells are long protected ones they may push the swich board out of earth contact if you close the tailcap fully.

No I didn’t have time to try different things…. I read the reviews on Amazon and others had the same problem… I sent it back for a full refund and will decide on something else when I get back from vacation….

I did return it for a full refund. I am just looking for something that is better than what I currently have. I have always liked bright lights…… I am not much into Modding as I have never done it before and I have 2 small children and would never have the time to do anyway. So I am looking for the best stock Led flood but the farthest throwing flooder out there for about $100 or under. I currently have

1. a 85 w ebay HID

2. a Power on Board 35 watt HID Spot light

3. a 20 million power on board halogen spotlight

4. A trustfire TR J12

5. SECURITYING NEW SKY RAY KUNG Super Bright 3800 Lumens 3x Cree Xm-l T6 LED Flashlight Torch

6. SkyRay King 6x CREE XM-L2 T6 LED 5-mode Flashlight 8500Lm Torch 4× 18650 Lamp

7. UltraFire CREE XML T6 LED Flashlight 5 Mode Zoomable Torch

8. C6L BLACK 2000 LM Zoomable CREE XML T6 LED 26650/18650/AAA Flashlight Torch Lamp

9. 500 Lumen underwater dive light

10. GSX 220 Lumen Handheld LED Flashlight

11. 2 headlamps, – 1 by coast and the other I am not sure about and various other smaller lights….

I guess I am trying to up the Ante on the LED’s I currently have but want it to be a noticeable difference over the TR – j12 or the Kung. I was thinking the x100 or the AK 90 but not sure how much better they are stock and if it’s worth the money. Any suggestions would be great…

Welcome to BLF
Save your money and just go with well know TR-J18 and just swapped the driver with KD beast driver and you’ll be happy and still have some money left to buy good battery such as 26650 KK
I have 2 TR-J18’s with simple resistor mode is even brighter than my stock supernight 15 LEDS
where are you in NY?

Thanks Daylighter

I am in Buffalo…. So a stock Tr J18 is going to be brighter than the stock X100? I am not sure I would have the time or know how to swap drivers….

Lots of people have problems with KD drivers burning out anyways on J18s, I wouldn’t try it unless the original driver is dead. I would just do the resistor mod I was unaware it was so bright/it worked so well myself. Links?

And no, x100 stock is brighter and throwier.

I agree, the X100 reflector is even better than the j18 reflector and the driver regulates better even though it looks to be very similar. Add an R300 resistor, and it even regulates 2.8-2.9A drive current(using 4 cells). All in all the X100 is a very high quality light compared to other budget multi emitters. I got mine a couple of days ago, so I did not know this last time I posted in this thread.

Trustfire X100, great budget light its never failed to work or hit the WOW factor. Spend a little more and you have the TrustFire TR-S700, shorter and brighter.

Thanks all

So the s700 is going to be better than x100? I was about to pull the trigger on the x100…. but now I am intrigued about the s700……

mutts13 - those SuperNight's must be run on unprotected cells - the power draw is too much for protected cells. I think you listed all protected cells for the ones you tried.

I don’t have an S700 and its on my to buy list, but I have an X100 and I’m pretty impressed by its performance.

My X100 does 49,247 cd (407 lux at 11 meters) which is about 444 meters of throw. It draws 3532 mA at the tailcap when using 3 26650s with a total of 12.24 volts. That should be about 1.94 Amps to each LED if my computations are correct.
