MGLITE X-THROWER (From Shining Beam)
This poor little X-Thrower has been languishing in the bottom drawer for a couple years. It's a real nice little light, but it never really reached its potential.
It came with a warm SST-50 (close to 4C) and a NANJG driver 2.8A. It had a very nice beam, but always seemed a little underpowered. I guess the orange peel reflector never helped it live up to it's "X-Thrower name Either.
I wanted to mod it, but could never get it apart. I took it out today and "duh", the pill screws out of the head. This light wants an MT-G2! I say to myself, "so that's what its getting".
The light seems so nicely made, I was surprised to find such a lightweight aluminum pill. Well, it'll have to do.
I was thinking of going 5A, but decided there was no point with such a small light running on 2 x 18350s. I couldn't remember if the driver I chose was 3A or 3.5A, so I just threw it in. The pill was exactly the size of the Noctigon, so centering was not a factor.
There was a nice little brass centering disc that fit into the reflector for the SST-50. When I removed it, the MT-G2 looked right at home,
A few stops and starts trying to get the driver grounded, and charge up a couple of efest IMR 18650 and I now have a really nice light. The Orange peel reflector becomes the MT-G2. I now have a new favorite light.
...and it feels so good in the hand,
Top - X-THROWER (3.5A)
Middle - XINTD
Bottom - Convoy M1 (with MT-G2 & Carlco optic)
I don't see many X-THROWERs around anymore, they must be discontinued, so if you have one collecting dust, brush it off and give it a makeover.
