35 led solar lantern, yellow, red,or white . truly amazing light, every preppers dream

just brought this lantern off ebay £18. trust me its worth every penny . build quality is very good.solar panel is nice and large and the variable light output is clever .not to mention it can charge the phone /tablet etc.
had mine running superbright for eight hours without any real sign of dimming down.
so impressed i brought a second one.

this one is uk based but sure once you see what it looks like you can source china based if not uk buyer .
no joke i brought another with dynamo crank handle and solar panel on top .
that one is only half as bright and was dimming after eight hours. this ones worth the extra £4 and the solar panel no doubt could be used to charge other things.

It looks like it is a handy and good working lamp, but it sure is ugly :

i,m quite new to all the terminology ,but i think each led is like a mini cree led,3014 smd .2.5mmx1mm.just put them out on lawn side by side 5 metres apart .the difference is amazing, light off the 35led lamp is less white ,not sure if it qualifies as warm white ,but its not harsh . i have took some pics but dont know how to add them.
ugly or not it puts out light .one thing that stands out is it throws light skywards as well not having a reflective top like most.but it is a real powerful lamp ,reminding me of my small tilly hurricane lamps.no more gas cartridges at £2 a throw.

Those look a lot like the 5mm leds, if they are then it can go straight into the garbage

bort for those of us who are unfamiliar with 5mm chips ,can you explain why you think it makes the lamp garbage worthy.do they burn out, what exactly makes them trash.and what lantern do you think tops this for less than £20? i will buy and compare them. you only get what you pay for ,its a £20 light after all said and done and at 1kg a fair bits postage.

low output, hideous colour rendering and no specifications (one batch could come from one place and another from the opposite end of the earth), and who knows what kind of life they would have, one day, 10 years?
I don’t know of a better lamp, i would also be interested in one

if anyone thinks they have spotted something better than this for sub£20 .please add a link .i,m willing to buy and test them in a showdown, lol. Just got to work out how to do a youtube video to link to.
bet theres a lot of ukrainians, iraqi;s,syrians, etc etc who would love one of these.
Actually there is a better option for the money.
£2.89 buy it now. a single 18650 battery and lights up a 10ft square room nicely.got eight of them now.

I was able to get this 3x “D” cell 30 day LED lantern on sale last week from West Marine for about $29.99 and really love it. It’s gotten really good reviews and should actually run for weeks on the low setting. Great amount of light output too. I’ve seen the price for it all over the place. So the price I purchased it for was really good.

REVERE SUPPLY Lantern

Found it on ebay USA for prices varying from $32.39 to almost $200! most listed prices were a total ripoff in the close to $140 range. Here is the lowest I found, shipped from China.

Bort;

What size, weight, power source (AA, D, etc battery) Lumens output, color temperature and price range do you want in a LED lantern? The available range is very wide, until you want warm white output. :open_mouth:

Make your own- There’s a lot of ways to make little ethanol stoves with a beer can too. Here’s one of the old style lanterns I have- pretty simple to make with just spare cans you have around. That thing looks pretty bad imo. Maybe put it into something that looks like a lantern!

I want AA, 4 or 8, i want many modes from 1-600 (or even higher is nice) lumens, no strobe or sos but at least 5 brightness settings would be nice, at least 65CRI, good light distribution and a free unicorn included

I would settle for a stuffed unicorn

That is a great lantern! :-)

There are a few similar lanterns on the market, and most of the LED lanterns that i have which came with the generic “5 mm LEDs” i swapped the LEDs with better quality warmer & neutral tint versions. ( as per Bort’s mention of the mixed tint color & quality thing of generic 5mm LEDs)
this made the light output better color, more consistent, and even brighter in some cases without increasing amp load.

Cool home-built lantern. how did you cut the hole in the bottom of the jar ? (unless its a plastic jar ?

Now just where you be stuffin’ that unicorn, boy.

it was going to be a giveaway that you could enter

the leds are 3014smd. @2.5mm x 1mm. light is not harsh .maybe not warm white ,but not cool white ,somewhere inbetween possibly .like i say i will try to do a video test .new to youtube and not good on computers .

BTW I found it on Amazon too from World Green Products and per the info on their page the battery used is an SLA battery, a technology that I do not care for due to the attention they require to stay alive. If neglected the battery is toasted.

I have friends living off-grid who’ve started looking for — specifically — amber/yellow LED lights for nighttime use
(some in the family, older with insomnia, have discovered the “no white light after 8pm” approach works really well for them).

I’ll start a fresh topic for details — just asking here if there’s a true amber/yellow lantern available (not a “warm white”)
