Im curious on what options I can find?
My researches been showing less to none.
The thing is that AA’s are so narrow, the form factor is kinda ruined by using a 17mm driver, as then its too wide. I recall seeing some CR123/2AA lights, that might be a start. But, you’ll need a boost driver anyway, and Fasttech sell a 15mm boost driver, it just doesn’t have any modes.
I think that the C3 does?
Standard black C3 from FT uses a 14mm driver, stainless C3 uses 15mm.
I just modified an Energizer 1x aa “tactical” to exactly what you’re looking for. It was a bitch, and I have a mini lathe. It can be done though.
The light I used was the older version with the forward clicky. The other newer one I have has a tiny little pill that just slides in, it’s garbage unless you make your own pill.
Good luck, I love aa lights but it can be frustrating to find a good one that fits your needs.
I just got the light in this thread today. It's too late for me to break down. The head seems like it might be big enough to have your criteria.
SK-68s can take 17 mm. drivers, because they have a space that size below the pill, apparently because of a design error. That might require doing something to increase the battery space but it works well. The trouble is that an SK-68, like any other 14500 or AA light necessarily looses valuable heat transfer by having a space that wide near its pill. It works, but look for options with smaller drivers.
Good news. That light I linked to can take a 16mm emitter base and a 17mm driver. The driver in it is actually 15mm, but flush with it another ledge that is 16.8mm (I think most 17mm drivers are actually 16.8mm).

Defiant 2xaa from home depot takes exactly what you’re looking for if you’re still searching. Just found one in my pile o lights. I picked it up at least a year ago, hopefully not giving you a goose chase.
The defiant surely looks nice but I dont think home depot is anywhere near my area. Gotta hunt them from online stores I guess
