review: nitecore UM20

Hi my friends!

i have a nitecore UM20 charger here and try to share a few things that came in my mind and…

some Pictures:

the pic of the front side of the box was so shaky - i had to delete it imediately to prevent brain damages

the back of box gives some data (longer list at the end)

the user manual in chinese

and english

when unboxed, you find the included USB cable wound up at the backside

untangled the 80cm long cable

there is a flap to open where the cable is connected - to the USB OUT !

the USB IN and a “priority” switch can be found at the top side

the charger is working (with a 14500 and a 18650 pull plugged into my laptop)

some detail shots:
massive looking front contact

slider with spring

contact spring - when the slider contacts here (62mm+) the Amps goes from 0,5 to 1

my conclusion:

this is a nice device!
i am a fan of the micro-USB-connector since you have one nearly everywhere! i finally found a charger to use in my car.
build quality of nitecore is good (as always) and the price is also very okay (especially with the secret Code)

the “Enables data transfer via USB” means only that the data from the device connected to out are routed through the charger…
NO charging data are collected!

the Good:
*clean look
*basic information on display whats going on with the batteries
*since input is USB it can be used with a lot of power sources (PC - car - phonecharger)
*quite sturdy - feels good altough its made of plastic
*the slider and springs seem to be good quality
*switch to decide which device is to charges first when input is to low

the not so good:
*some may be confused that the charger comes preconfigured with a cable connected to the USB out
*26650 do not fit
*no power bank funktion
*no way to charge NiMh batteries

thanks to banggood.com for the sample!

I concur with your review. I just received mine on Monday and put it to use yesterday charging some Trustfire 14500’s I purchased recently. I connected the UM20 to the Anker 14W solar panel charger I also just bought and everything worked just as I hoped.

I didn’t realize that it was li-ion only but that’s okay. I’m now on the hunt for a good NiMH charger that uses USB.

Nice review.
