Although I’ve also seen older models on ebay claiming the 219A in the past, but that was a while ago. They however didn’t state which 219A.

The reality is, Nichia’s just aren’t used in many stock torches, even less with the 219A’s which are now defunct. The 219A has a very high forward voltage and low lumen output. But getting the lumens out of them on a 4.2v Li-ion is challenging. On AA’s I would think very low output.

The newer 219B solves this quite nicely by having a much lower forward voltage, hence you see more of them in use. Even in AAA lights.

If you fancy modding then you could build a p60 (or use the Int’l Outdoor 219B one) and adapt an incan Mini Maglite to take one.

However your best bet might be to just forgo Nichia and opt for a high CRI alternative.

I just finished building a Convoy S4 last night with an XP-G2 R5 5A2 and it’s very nice. I also have a Convoy S4 with a Nichia NVSL219BT R85 D220.

And honestly you need them side by side to see the tint differences. I do like the Nichia but the XP-G2 is brighter, throws better and doesn’t get as hot as quickly.

On a side note, one of the best tints I’ve seen recently is in my Maglite Solitaire, it uses a Luxeon C. It’s not quite as golden in tint as the Nichia, but arguably nicer in some ways and a little more natural. Maglite use the Luxeon C in the AAA Minimag. Still only 87 lumens and I can’t vouch for the tint/CRI in those as I don’t have one. But might be an option.

For what it’s worth, Zebralight use Luxeon emitters in their “daylight” high CRI lights.

Although they use the Luxeon T.

L3 Illumination L10

EagleTac D25A2 in XML-T6 & Nichia 219

Thanks
That looks like my only kinda option but I heard that there are reliability issues with them.
Illumination supply ain’t even Stocking the newer L10C I guess cos of this.

I have an Ultrafire SS C3 that I do not use. It has a Nichia 219A 4500K 92CRI led and BLF-customised Trustfire-Mini01 boostdriver (2%-20%-100%, start on low, no memory, 1000Hz PWM) that runs on NiMh (less output) and Li-ion cells. It is a bit too heavy for my pocket but otherwise a nice light.

Is that something to consider? It is the fourth one in the (old) pictures below:

Much thanks, but not a big fan of the fire products.
Thanks.

that's ok :-)

Bump.
Anyone else with an AA nichia 219a hcri?.
Thanks xx

Thanks
If you have anything else let me know.
Thanks again my friend.

Looking for single or double AA, thanks.
Has to be 219a hcri 92.

Anyone in the uk can mod one even?.

Cheers…

why do you specifically want only the “a” not the “b” version of the Nichia 219?

I can certainly vouch for the SC52d being a GREAT light. Granted, the Luxeon T doesn’t have the same tint as the Nichia 219A. But it’s actually a much more pure white without any kind of cast. Another nice thing about this emitter is that it’s generally a more powerful emitter than the Nichia. Although the SC52d isn’t as bright as the SC52w L2, at 205 lumens (with a one minute 300 lumen burst with a 14500), it’s still near the head of the class compared to most other 1xAA lights. Plus it has all the other great qualities that people have come to love about the other SC52 models.

On the other hand, if you have your heart set on a 219A, look into the L3 Illuminations L10 (twisty). This light is quite inexpensive and is available with either an XP-G2 or Nichia 219A. And with an honest, ruler flat 120 lumens max (also with .9/3/30 lumens), it’s not too bad. Just remember to get the L10 twisty and NOT the L10C clicky light. The latter uses the newer, cooler tinted 219B.

The L10-219 is the shiznit, but I like the Spark SF5 NW better because it’s actually a warmer tint than my L10-219 and I’m a fan of the user interface on the SF5.

I don’t see any … fire there, it’s ss host with boost driver and Nichia 219A 4500K 92CRI led.
That ……fire is kind of irony, there is reason why so many …fire copying Ultrafire and Trustfire. I assume it’s because the original one is not bad. Sometime I feel really unfair for the original one.

L10 twisty have 219A and 219B version.
