I need some help to find the correct cable for my VC4, it is a USB to 5.5mm jack but not the same as most 5.5mm jacks I have. The lead for this seems to use a larger pin in the charger and thus requires a larger hole in the 5.5mm jack plug.
The one I have is faulty (voltage fluctuates when wiggled, tested with DMM), I could sent back as faulty but to be honest for a couple quid I might as well just order a new one and get a couple spares at the same time. Stupid charger, I wouldn’t of bought it at all if I’d of know the charge cable was obscure!
Yes I agree the difference does help incorrect supply from being inserted, however a USB would have been far better and allow a wealth of various cables to be used. A cable I cannot get easily and that may fail, makes the overall product a fail from me I’m afraid, I’d advise people not to buy this product, no matter how good the rest of it is.
Note, I’m pretty sure it appears bigger than 2.5, I’d of guessed it was a 5.5 x 2.8mm plug but I will check later with calipers.
I made one myself, Xtar said they couldn’t help and to return to banggood but I have made this one now and get the full charge. It works but I wouldn’t recommend this charger.
I did buy a couple of cables from eBay and whilst they fit, the charger would not charge at the full rate. I believe most pre-made cables of this type cannot cope with 2A, hence why I have used thicker cable and made my own.
I recently purchased an adaptor Female 5.5 x 2.1mm to male 5.5 x 2.1mm. I just tried it on the output plug of a 5V 2.5A plug pack. It plugged in fine on the VC4 and it’s now charging 2 x 18650 batteries in the charger at 1A. Seems ok.
The power pack is a 5V 2.5A unit that has a 5.5x2.1mm output plug. This was a spare I had from one of my routers.
I have had a similar problem (charging amps dropped to 0.1-0.2 while moving the cable) and fixed it by cleaning the cable jack that goes to the charger with isopropyl alcohol.
Now it charges perfectly and does not fluctuate even if I wiggle it
Got an adapter similar to that at the PC recycle store for $2. They have large bins of wall warts categorized by voltage. I brought the charger in and found one with the right output and fit. Works great. Before that I was using an Aukey 2.1A USB charger ($10 Amazon) with the supplied cable, also worked fine. Decent USB chargers are not hard to come by-just don’t buy the cheap ones. Go brand name.
