safe current for Nichia 219BT?

Hey guys, I’m about to put together a red convoy S2 with a Nichia 219BT from Mountain Electronics.Am I safe driving this thing with a 2.8 or 3 amp Q-light or should I remove some chips to drop the current?I see that the Nichia P-60 droppins that Richard sells are only at 2.2 amps?

I run mine with 5 and think you might be able to get away with 6. I just never pushed mine hard. Do not want to cook one, with 5 the output is great and color is great. I am not sure if the tint would blow out if pushed to hard.

You should be fine on copper. Check out this thread by djozz.

Thanks, I guess I’ll go with a 3 amp Q-light and see what happens.Just put a factory dome less xp-l in a convoy c-8.I like it but not sure if the focus is correct.

S2 doesn’t have much mass. Might not blow the led but probably won’t see any extra lumens after 6 chips. The test topped out ~3A sitting on a big hunk of aluminum.

I keep reading how the only difference is the Minimum CRI rating is better on the V1, however based on datasheets the Vf is lower. This could potentially allow higher currents.
These are the exact 219B and exact 219-V1 I am talking about, both L2 voltage bin.
