Purchase decision - Why did you buy a particular light?

There is a certain feature or whatever that motivates the purchase of any light. Can you tell us the particular light and why you bought it? I have bought for tint, lumens, included cells, price, etc. And we all absolutely have to have the latest emitter. The BLF A6 is a light that demands to be bought by anyone that calls themselves a flashaholic. The modes, the lumens, the chance to own a light designed by the savy few. Intoxicating.

What drove you to the “buy” button, and if you can tell us, which light in particular.

Never had a reason other than the need to have the latest and brightest light out there provided it’s within budget HAHAH and of course tint, throw, form factor and UI

I bought my 3d maglights because they’re durable and I can use one when I can’t find my hammer. Now I just need to make them brighter.

Does this confession count as privileged information?

i did it way to many times. :Sp

The last light I bought was the Thrunite TH10. There are a FEW headlights that have come out recently by popular manufacturers but, their mode spacing is NOT to my liking. What’s the point of having a sub lumen moonlight then 50+ lumens as your next mode? :Sp
.
Modes: Mode spacing of the thrunite is pretty good! Moonlight is a little low for my eyes except for pure dark situations (my room). The 11 lumen second mode is great for walking, running on road or smooth trail.
.
Input voltage: The TH10 can take two RCR123 cells,ie 8.4V and I’m sure I’ve read somewhere that it can take 12V at the input. This in my mind equates to the potential of being modded for use as a bike light with an external 2S or 3S battery pack for long runtimes on high. I should also function well with an input of 6V from 4S alkaline cells.
.
Tint: The th10 has cool white or neutral white options. I always choose the NW option just in case I can’t open the light to change the LED myself. (I did access the LED and it IS on a DTP copper board  )

Weight: weight sucks. It is a big light and heavy. :frowning: I accept this as a consequence of its relatively low cost which contradicts logic since in this case, I’m paying less money for more aluminium… :quest: lol.

It might useful to others if people add whether the light worked out the way they hoped. Some of these were review units, but the reasons I was interested in them are the same as the reasons I might have bought them otherwise.

  • Nitecore SRT5 - UI, mostly
  • Olight M20SX Javelot - brand reputation, instant strobe button, claimed performance (does not deliver), included accessories (I now consider this one a mistake)
  • Olight M3XS-UT Javelot - brand reputation, claimed performance (does deliver)
  • Fenix TK61 - something to compare to the M3XS-UT (wouldn’t buy one because it doesn’t meet my needs, would recommend to others)
  • Convoy S6 - price (bought at a discount), ease of modification (two of these now play host to a 219B and a 219C)
  • Convoy F8 - price (bought at a discount), ease of modification (now with 219C)
  • Nitecore Tube - form factor, built-in charging (unique in this form factor)
  • Streamlight Microstream - 10440 compatibility, forward-clicky switch (rare in this form factor) (switch failed after a month - I now consider this one a mistake)
  • Nitecore HC30 - right-angle design, versatility, size, price
  • Rayus C01 - price, Nichia 219 - though I realized after ordering that the 219A it comes with is not the 219 everyone raves about (now with 219C)
  • C3 power bank/light - price, power bank for removable 18650s (now with the 219A out of the Rayus) (can overcharge batteries - I now consider this one a mistake)

I will consider about lumens, included cells, price,I like the LED flashlight of brinyte.Always the quality of the flashlight is excellent!

But the big question is: would you still like Brinyte after you stopped working for them

I got a SK68 as my first product into LED lights and was fascinated how bright a 1xAA could be. Since I didn’t know a lot about modding lights, dedoming, flashing chips and the like I decided to go with a flexible light - a Solarforce P60. I thought if anything goes wrong or I didn’t like the module I could just change it with another drop-in I create.

Now slowly moving into non P60 lights with Convoy (good prize/quality).

so basically I decide based on flexibility, quality and price.

I am not yet willing to spend hundreds on a single light but I am sure that will happen at some point

I have one Brinyte wanna be C8 Champagne POS and its terrible, piss poor machining! Bezel is way off center, Tail cap is terribly loose? Nice reflector though? So I might be biased?

OK. Here goes the Coast HL7 headlamp story.

I was in Costco and saw this at a killer price (cheaper than the link). The purchase decision was based on (maybe in order of first attraction, maybe not):

1. Killer price
2. 214 lumens. Wow. My current UltraFire UF-H2B puts out 120 lumens max.
3. Runtime: High - 3 hours 45 minutes. Double wow. My UF is good for about an hour.
4. The headlamp did not have a strap that runs over the top of my head. I don’t care for those.
5. Zoom. The lamp zooms from a ten foot diameter flood to a bulls-eye.
6. Batteries. Takes 3 AAA. I find that the heavy battery pack at the back of my head is a bit of a turn-off, but by no means a deal-breaker.
7. Infinite lumen adjustment. Smoothly goes from low to max with no stutter.
8. Tilting head. Puts the light where you want it.

So, how has it been in use?
In a word, awesome. I haven’t checked the runtime, but it is more than the UF. My biggest regret is that I didn’t buy more. Bad Wilson!

Edit: I checked the runtime on high. Just over an hour on 3 AAA eneloops. What happened to my 3 hours 45 minutes!! Now that I think about it, 3h45m does seem to fall in the too good to be true category.

The Paradox of Choice has lead to virtually every light purchase.

Or I thought it would be the holy grail of flashlights.

Happens to be on sale tomorrow for $51.95 (if you happened to have been lucky to pick up the $8 off coupon earlier).
