Question For You Pros About This Charger

I have kept this Renewal PS2 charger since I bought it tnew back in around 1994 or so. On the bottom side of charger it says to only use Renewal reusable alkaline batteries. Any other type of battery may explode or leak, causing personal injury or property damage. Now I'm not one to not follow instructions, but I thought I would ask some guys here that know for sure if this charger is the exact same type charger that is used to charge nimh batteries or not? I hate to just throw it away if it will in fact work and do so safely.

Here's what the charger looks like on the inside.

Any labels there to state the output?

Let me check. And thanks for your help in advance.

Here's all it says on the back or bottom of charger.

The voltage of a new alkaline battery is 1,6V.

The maximum voltage of a fully charged Nimh battery is about 1,4V. If this charger keeps charging Nimh batteries till the voltage is 1,6V, then it is possible that the batteries will get very hot, and they could explode...

Nimh batteries are pretty safe, but overcharging is not a good idea. If the charging current is only 1/10 of the capacity, then it is not a big problem, because the batteries won't get too hot. But with a higher current something can go wrong.

So how do I know if it will work? I don't have any equipment. Can you recommend me a good for the money nimh AA/AAA/C/D charger? Would this one work. I'm thinking about buying a maglite mod from a guy on here and will need a good charger and batteries.

What is your primary cell that will be used, which format.

D cell for right now. But will probably add some c cells later on another light I may buy.

Sorry dont have any lights that use that format as of now, have you thought about looking at a good hobby charger since you might want to charge other chemistries and other formats as well.

I just want to keep things simple for now. I have the Xtar WP2 charger for 18650 batteries. But it looks like I'm going to have U_235 make me a good light. I may just let him be my flashlight go-to-guy since he does a great job.
