My Craftsman model 82141 DMM has been having intermittent issues when testing current, so I decided to open it up to see if something was loose where the leads plug in. Everything looks good, but I noticed this spring shooting out. Bottom of pic, middle right. I'm sure it has some sort of purpose and the other end should be connected somewhere, but I have no idea. Possibly the screw to the right of where the spring is connected? Any ideas? Thanks.
There is always a spring from the circuit board to a silvery foil type thing, on the cover you took off. If the spring popped out, maybe it previously left a dent in the foil surface from its original position.
Hey, what do you know! You are correct. Yes, there is a piece of foil tape on the inside of the cover. It looks like the spring would just rest against it. Thanks!
