Lack of serious discussion topic's.

I’m obviously new to the forum, but I have to say that I’m a little disappointed at the lack of serious discussions in this section.

I thought at the very least we would be discussing the attacks in Paris and the bombing of the Russian airline, but I suppose that involves religion which we’re not allowed to discuss.

I used to regularly go on another forum where we did discuss such thing’s but I got fed up of some of the people on there especially those that would consistently use abbreviated offensive langauage thinking that was acceptable.

In the last month or so I’ve appreciated that this forum is much better in that respect, you appear to be much more civilised! 0:)

This is a flashlight forum, we do have an off-topic subsection but generally we discuss flashlights and technology around it.

Have a look at the other areas and I am sure you’ll find various topics with the search function as well.

One of the things which I like best here is the dearth of off-topic discussions and threads not always turning into a crap-fest unrelated to their start. You can get those everywhere else, common as fleas on a hound-dog and with a similar aggravation factor :frowning:

If I click on a light thread here I know it will be about lights throughout, and I don’t have to scroll through dozens of threads to find one about lights. Mighty nice compared to the rest of the world

I do discuss politics, wars, religion, but not on a forum, that just does not work for keeping discussions sensible and fruitful, and that is why the forum rules do not allow them. Those discussions work best face to face with people IMO.

I'm really glad that this forum is full of flashlight talk and that most off-topic chatter is 'lightweight'. That does not mean that the people populating this forum themselves are superficious, I actually get the impression that many are not :-)

I’m not interested in discussing Paris etc on BLF, i prefer reading and discussing about flashlight related things here

On a serious note , the title of this thread has a punctuation error .

Discuss .

Hobby is suppose to help us de-stress.

Very well said. That’s the point really, there is no shortage of information about current events and important issues, but I don’t want BLF to be one of them because it’s about a hobby. And as djozz says, BLF users are not shallow, superficial people that only care about flashlights. There’s just a time and place for everything, that’s all.

Doesn’t work well on forums, quite simply. Tried first hand.

Plenty of places to discuss serious topics, not so many places to discuss flashlights.

You want a serious discussion?
Try search about overcharged lithium ion battery on BLF,nothing more serious than burn down your house

This forum is full of interesting, kind, generous people that I no doubt would have serious differences of opinion with over the entire range of human conduct. I thank SB for having a place where we can celebrate and share a hobby without passing judgement on others or constantly defending ourselves. It’s a kind if bridge building there needs to be more of. That serious enough?

I think your statement answers itself. In the time that I’ve been here, there have maybe been one or two threads about current events around the world, but BLF’ers are usually pretty low-key people. I like that everyone steers clear of “worldly controversial” topics! Instead, we argue over whether we should have mode memory or not!

Shocking, indeed!

(It would be crass to mention it in regards to our many members who have English as a second language, of course, but an Andrew from Northumberland, England fairly reeks of being a native English speaker.)

You idiot! Clearly mode memory should be user configurable.

we know how to settle our differences.

“You call that a loight? This is a loight!”

Well I was reading the papers the other day about the problems with ISIS and terrorism in the world and I must have read 3 whole pages and nowhere did it mention flashlights!

Their mommies don't let them out after dark.

I thought ISIS meant someone was so happy about Illumination Supply (IS), that they wrote it twice in a row!

That or they were into the Old Egyptian Gods: Isis the Goddess of health, marriage, and wisdom…but thats not appropriate on this forum either…
