Interesting flood + spot combo without zoom, using COB + regular emitter

I haven’t seen a setup like this before, and I’m wondering if it’s actually new, or a design that’s been tried and abandoned for a reason…

Uses a COB ring surrounding a more traditional emitter.

(Note that it’s not currently available to purchase, and I suspect the battery & tint aren’t optimal, I’m just curious about the design itself.)
What do you think - potentially useful, or gimmicky?

Take a look at the some EagleTac models, they have some smd leds in a frosted plastic ring around there normal led and reflector.
