So put me on the list for 2.
Thanks for doing this Thijsco!

Yeah, a quad XHP-50 2S2P from this thing would be doable, or just a quad XP-L 4P. But, at a max 1.5A output, don’t expect much. I don’t really see a good use for this. The driver is HUGE, requires 2S cells to work, and yet only puts out 1.5A? Tired I guess I’ve been watching Dale too much. I have grown to expect more from less. Silly

I had the same concerns as DavidEF regarding the low output of just 1.5A but since Cree rates the XHP35 at 1833 lumens at 1.05A we should be able to expect 2000 OTF at 1.5A, possibly a bit more.

I’d be in for a couple of these drivers. I have a TK35 clone that would be phenomenal with an XHP35 if there is enough room for the driver.

I think I will be able to cook something with those 2 x XHP50 that I have on route to me Smile

In for 2 pcs, also please, be sure to remind me via PM when this starts, too many threads here Big Smile

P.S. Atmel based mcu would be very very nice btw Innocent

In theory it should work, even 4× 3V led like a xpl should work. But the downside is they only getting 1.5A, that is not much.

But, if you have a big enough flashlight for a 28mm driver and 2S cells, you could just use a XHP-50 or even XHP-70 instead and not have a 1.5A limit. If this driver was half the size, it would be great for putting a XHP-35 into a 14500-size light powered by two 14250 cells.

Ah Kaidomain, forgot about them, every time I tried to buy something from them I got some unexplained error telling me that I can not pay with paypal (paypal said it’s ok from their side, my card issuer said it’s all fine, Kaidomain could not find where is the problem), so, eventually I stopped trying to order from them never finishing that first order, will have to try one more time, maybe they finally corrected what was wrong with their system!

Thanks for the info btw. Thumbs Up

Well, I guess it’s more about tinkering than getting astonishing results, after all this is a bust driver, has to upp the voltage from (in worst case 6-7V) to 12V plus pump some decent current. I presume it will suck those batteries dry quite fast.
Actually when I think about it this driver is really only best for XHP35 LED, because for everything else like MTG2 or XHP50/70 or XPL/XML there are better solutions, for example for 4xXPL setup it would be better to go 2S2P leds with 2S battery or even 4P leds powered by either 2S or 2-3-4P battery, anything is better than boosting voltage for leds that don’t require high V. Right!?

Updated.
Total: 51 pieces, 49 to go.

@Texlite, I’ve put you down for four pieces if that’s oke? Gearbest said that due to some Chinese holiday’s the answer will be delayed.
Also since this is a boost driver it’s more difficult to maintain a constant current than a regular CC or buck driver. Though I do hope that it will have a stable 1500mA output.

@JohnnyMac, I’ve put you down for 2 pieces if that’s oke? That was exactly what I was thinking, a very nice 2000 lumens from a (somewhat) smallish led that will still throw.

@Mitko, Sounds like you’ve read my mind Big Smile , only downside is that it doesn’t support a sideswitch..

In for one, can we get 5 brightness modes instead of 3?

Depending on modes, I’d be in for 4-5. I’d prefer 4 modes with a low-low or moon, but I’d still buy with 3 modes.

Can you verify the drive current is 1500ma? I sourced these direct from China when they were first mentioned, never purchased because I couldn’t get an answer to whether the drive current was 1000ma or 1500ma, all I got was “between” or “either” those two, which is not how a CC driver works, should be one or the other, not “between”, and I’m not committing to >10 without knowing the either/or spec.

Either way, good price, put me down for at least a few regardless of specs.

Thanks for putting this together.

Got a answer from gearbest.
“yes, it’s indeed aroud 1.5A, but when you use it to build your light, please be careful for the LED heat dissipation structure ( LED的散热结构)”
My guess is that it depends on the batteries you use, if they can handle the power or not.

Awesome!

I’m sure mounted on an DTP board and with adequate mass and thermal path the XHP35 will be fine.

Input current will be around 3.5A from 2 cells at 3.5V each, with a WAG of 13.5 for Vf at 1500ma. So any good cells should be fine here.

Thanks for getting an answer, appreciated.

I went back and edited an earlier response, I know thats going to bump the thread so even though its OT, I felt an explanation was in order.

I was going back through the thread to make sure I hadn’t missed anything, when I noticed what I typed in an earlier response HERE was not very clear and could be misunderstood, especially since we have a worldwide membership and not everyone is a native english speaker. What I was saying was I would not commit to the buying from the previous source because they wouldn’t be forthright with the specs, not that I was wasn’t committing to anything from you thijsco19.

Sorry for the OT.

It should, however this driver is 28mm and the driver cavity in the L6 is I believe 30mm. And this driver doesn’t support a side switch.

Updated the list.

Now we have the 26350 groupbuy so we can build a short L2 with this driver and XHP35-HI. Or anybody kknows a normal driver for 12V leds which works with 4s cells? And you can build with 4 26350 an L6 or a long L2

You can Zener mod or LDO up to 12V in for a linear driver using AK -101.

Three Tanna leaves to give him life, nine to give him movement. But what if he eats the whole bag?

Update time!

I received the sample today. I can’t try it out today but hopefully I can tomorrow. Unfortunately I will be going away for a couple days tomorrow. If you don’t hear from me tomorrow don’t worry, I’ll be back this Monday.

Gearbest will order the drivers if I confirm that the sample is ok. After order, it will take 10-15 days to produce these drivers.
Be patient!
They will order 100 pieces so there is enough! (I believe the price is still the same, but pls don’t kill me if it isn’t) Big Smile

MechEngVictor, Gearbest is ordering the 100 drivers so there should be enough.

I did some testing, keep in mind that my test setup was a little sketchy however the numbers do look great.

I did get a 1.5A on high. It started around 1.35 and it went up to 1.49 in a couple of seconds. Not sure if thats the driver or my test setup.
Medium is around 0.3A and low around 0.03A.
Mode memory works, the lights has to be off for approximately 1 sec to memorize the mode.
The driver does get warm/hot, though I haven’t tested the thermal stepdown.

I guess I can give it a go, it all seems ok.

I want to apologize that it takes so long.
