18350 Astrolux E01 FET+7135 Driver NarsilM UI Mod

Host light purchased from here. https://www.fasttech.com/product/8646000-astrolux-e01-mini-led-flashlight
Use code BLF to reduce the price.
.
Purchased Mtn 22DDm with the attiny85 and sanded about 1 mm of the sides. The opening for the driver is about 21mm.
Flashed the attiny85 with NarsilMQ8.hex. Replaced the amc7135 with one off a BLF A6 board. The original Mtn 7135 380ma will not turn on in the lowest modes. Other 7135’s 350ma maybe used to if they will turn on in the low modes. I just don’t know which ones that is exactly.
FET + 7135 Driver - 22mm - MTN-22DDm
.
Purchased XP-L V6 3D on 16mm mcpcb from Mtn. The opening for the led mcpcb is a little odd at 19 mm I think.
A 20mm will work if sanded down to fit. http://www.mtnelectronics.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=60_106&product_id=322
.
I have done this same mod a couple of times with different host. I’ll try to keep it short as not to bore anyone with the same old mod.
.

The factory driver. Pic was took after I had already robbed the switch.

.
Old scrap driver board I had laying around collecting dust.

.
Stripped everything off and cleaned up a bit.

.
Cut out a piece of the board to mount the switch with a proxxon rotary tool.

.
This switch mount has to fit down the head in the 2 side slots. The switch has to be mount to contact the metal switch button.

.
Soldered the switch mount board to the mountain board negative outside ring (ground). Soldered one side of the switch to the outside ring of the switch mount board to pick up ground. Soldered the other side of the switch to pin #2 on the attiny85 pad (small red wire).

.

.
Slid the new driver down in the head and soldered the led wires on. Installed everything back together and Now it’s running NarsilM with all the cool features and in a 18350 size light. If I can’t buy one like I want it I’ll just make one.
Not the coolest looking light around but has the coolest UI.
.
.
Astrolux E01 running NarsilM moonlight setting 1.

.
Comparison to other lights.

Nice job!

I don’t know if I could handle doing something like that.

Chris

Thanks Chris!
This one really wasn’t that bad. I think the board being 21mm made it a little easier to work with.
The BLF A6 FET+7135 in the Klarus Mi7 and the Utorch UT01 was quite tedious at 17mm. Worth the effort though.

I got tired of try to find the button by feel in the dark. I wanted to add a trit vial to the button but after looking at it, it was just to thin for a 1.5mm by 6mm vial.
Purchased a 1/2 stainless steel bolt at lowes and chucked it up in the lathe.
Turned it down to the right size and added the clip groove that holds the button in place.
Clamped it down in the vise on the mill and cut a .060” groove to hold the trit, smallest end mill I had on hand.
.

.
The button is thicker and protrudes further out, it’s a lot easier to find now with the 7 year green glow.

Another really nice mod moderator. Thanks for taking the time to post it up. You are inspiring me to have another go at the A6 driver. Is this in Toykeepers repository? NarsilMQ8.hex.

Not really sure if its there or not, haven’t checked.
I got it of Tom E NarsilM thread. NarsilM - configurable e-switch firmware for Multi channels, v1.3
It’s under “Where to get it” NarsilM hex 2Chan Q8 v1-0.zip
It’s the hex file that’s inside once you unzip it. Its just NarsilM.hex
I think I gave it the name NarsilMQ8.hex so I would know what it was for. Not really sure if I named it that or if I saw it somewhere else.

Very nice :sunglasses: especially with a trit switch it must be a real ‘go to’ light :+1:

:+1: Thanks.
