Blf A6 experiment gone bad. Help fix!!

I took a convoy S2+ smooth reflector and dropped it into a blf a6 just to see if it would work. the flashlight didn’t seem to cycle properly through the modes so I switched it back to the original reflector.

Now the problem persists. it will go through the modes but the hidden modes don’t work anymore. instead the flashlight just turns off. Also in the brightest mode it only shines to about 30 pecent max brightness. an idea what happened there? did I fry the driver or something?

I can see that the reflectors are not the same but still can’t imagine why I might have caused permanent damage to the light.

I tried all the obvious things. Used a fresh battery and tried it with the the tailcap of another A6 so the issue is somewhere between the battery and the led.

I’m probably just going to stick a new driver in there but I would still like to know what about that little experiment could have caused this. Thanks

Might be that the S2+ reflector shorted the a6 if it made contact with positive wire in the head.

And would that mess up the driver? After further examination it seems the hidden modes work with exception of the FET. It will cycle to the battery check and bike mode, so long as you cycle past the FET and strobe. Turbo and Strobe are now “ghost” modes so to speak.

It’s possible that the FET let the smoke out when/if it was directly shorted.

Let the smoke out? You mean like it burnt it out??

I’m looking at the reflector now and have no doubt that it shorted. Still trying to understand why the light still half works.

The fet blew when you turned it on with the led shorted. Now the current regulated modes still work, since that channel is functional.

The good news is, those drivers are about 6 bucks, or 9 bucks from Richard at M.E.
