Between this n the maxtoch, which is better? Other than the maxtoch is 2x18650
If this can throw as far as the maxtoch, id buy one. But I dunno the answer to this??
from the specs:
Output (tested with Weltool UB18-35 3500mAh 18650 rechargeable lithium-ion battery,
outdoor, constant on, below 25 degrees Celsius):
o High: 180,000 Candela, 848 meter beam distance, 200 lumens, 1 hour 25
minutes runtime
o Low: 45,000 Candela, 424 meter beam distance, 50 lumens, 2 hours 50 minutes
runtime
The light source may be exotic but still the oldschool rules about lenses and throw applies: throw in kcd is lineair with the surface area of the front lens. The Maxtoch has a ~54mm lens, the Weltool has a ~27mm lens, so if they use the same LEP module driven at the same power, the Maxtoch has a 4 times brighter spot. It is even a bit more, 180kcd vs 1Mcd, so there’s slightly more going on than just a bigger lens.

The Maxtoch is bigger and more powerful. About 430 lumen iirc what someone measured, so a bit less than the rated 500 lumen. It did 1.8kcd at 2680 meters which is over the rating. It’s also more expensive and bulkier. The W3 is a true pocket sized thrower.
the goal of LEP is to be as small as possible imho...
going 2S 18650 and big head a LED can reach as far, has more Lumens and is cheaper a lot ;)

At these currents a boost or buck-boost driver is neglibibly costlier. But size decrease ain’t small….
