Maglite 8D with XHP70.2

Hi!
Last year I modded a 6D maglite with a Cree XM-L2 U2, led driver, aluminium reflector and glass lens. Pretty happy with it
But … you know … it is never enough
I bought a new (second hand) 6D and … because it is not long enough  … I want buy a 2D extension tube.
I want keep use the D cell batteries. I will have 1,5V X 8 = 12V
I would like to try a Cree XHP70.2 with a driver that has those characteristics: input 6V-15V output 6V 4,5A.
I have a little lathe and I want create a cooper heat sink to hold the led and the driver.
Can this Maglite work?

WELCOME TO BLF!

With the right driver, yes, it will work. (although I don’t know the exact driver atm)

Regarding Mags and extension feel free to check out this cool video from one of our users:

I have the right driver for you custom set to your needs

Would it be difficult to change the XPG2 with a luxeon V2 or an SST20 with a hot air station? Just curious. I may have to take a chance and try it. I have a 6D and a 6C cell that I bought 20+ years ago. It is amazing how far lights have come. I really only have them because of nostalgia reasoning’s. I already have a cheap LED upgrade in it but its barely better than the incandescent.

Hot air reflow is easy - use the right flux, heat it up to the correct temperature and replace the emitter. You can refresh the solder if required.

My hot air reflow station was the 2nd most relevant investment, right after my soldering iron.

This ” Maggie ” will be a great defensive tool FOR SURE. I would surely buy one.
