8-slot AA Charger w/Selectable Charge & Discharge Rates?

I have an MH-C9000, which I like.

I’m wondering if there is such a thing as an 8 cell charger that has some of the features of the MH-C9000. Specifically, I’d like a “Refresh Cycle” with user-specifiable charge and discharge rates.

I use my batteries mainly in portable recording equipment with multiple phantom-powered microphones attached. The discharge rates are relatively high. Typically, at least 1000 ma. So, I’d like to be able to evaluate my batteries with the discharge rate at which they will be used. I think most 8-slot chargers have fixed rates that are less than this. The MH-C980 would be perfect if I could set the discharge and charge rates.

Might anyone offer any suggestions?

Thank you.

DG

When discharging, the charger has to burn off all that wattage per cell, so would have to be very well actively cooled, or it’d cook itself. That’s why even 4-bay chargers limit charge/discharge rates when filled.

8 bays, 1A each? That’s a lot. Someone might make a specialty charger, but I don’t know who.

Thank you for your insightful reply.

I hadn’t considered the power angle.

My MH-C9000 seems to handle the 1A discharge rate, and the batteries get a little warm to the touch. Of course, that’s only 4 batteries, not 8.

I usually charge them at 1200ma. THey also get warm, but not hot. (I have both Powerex 2700mah and Amazon Basics 2400mah batteries. I just recently discarded a set of Eneloop Pro 2500mah after about 9 years of use.)

It’s not a big deal. Just would be more convenient to be able to do all 8 at a time, rather than in two batches. Guess I could just buy another MH-C9000.

Thanks again.

Yeah, buy another C-9000, or even two!

Yep. Discharging is essentially just burning off that power through a resistor (and pass-element like a FET), and it’s pure heat, no “work” being done.
