Ok, so as some of you know, I’m Star Wars mad, lightsabers even more so…… For a bit of fun I bought this £3.50 Firefly Star Wars toothbrush which lights up, and talks/makes sounds (quite well as it goes) to try to convert into a flashlight.
Now, it failed as a toothbrush, every other person seems to say it just stops working after a while, and indeed my kids have had them in the past (not star wars) and that is the case. I think it’s probably water ingress that does for them in the end. I have already taken it apart, to see if it’s a viable idea, and it seems it may be. For now I’ll share some photo’s with you, to get some input maybe lol! it is basically 20mm right through, and if I took those little fins off inside, and 18650 is going to fit. ideally, somehow if possible I’d like to keep the sounds/speaker (located in bottom) but that may be too much of a challenge for me. The rubber switch on the side pushes that little microswitch (duh) so at some point they are going to need to connect, obviously that is going to cause issues, and may force me down to a slimmer cell. Anyway, enough waffle - what do you guys think?
I want to use it as a host, what for is undecided…. obviously a light though. (not a laser)
Whether that is a single (likely) or a triple (less likely) is going to depend on space. I’m thinking I can line it with copper pipe, by splitting 22mm plumbing pipe and maybe re-soldering it back up, though maybe it won’t need that. As for the rest, it’ll take some more thought. It may be that I use a 4 colour RGBW - I already have a driver for that (basic crap modes one) trouble is it’s not e switch. Worst case scenario I bin the sound/speaker in the bottom and put a clicky in., just need to get another led.
I just thought I’d throw the idea out there at this point, 2am lol time for bed!
Plastic sadly, which is why I’ll have to line it with some sort of tube - probably copper plumbing.
Does anyone know of a small rgbw driver, I have one, but I’m not comfortable with using it, I used it before, for a few days it was fine, then it blew the red die. I don’t know if it was the driver, or the led at fault.
Also, what is the difference between these leds -

I’m thinking tir? lens, but again, would like some help in choosing a lot come with this sort - LINK is that for interior lighting, or would it be ok? I want a mid range, not flood, not spot.
