What battery to use for Convoy s2+?

Hello everyone!
I recently bought a convoy s2+ sst20*6 (2.1A) flashlight and a Liitokala Lii-402 Micro USB DC 5V charger.
I’m looking for a decent non expensive battery.
I think that I can use either a button or a flat top, is this correct?
I’m not sure though if I have to buy a protected one or not.
Any suggestions please?

Almost any 18650 cell will do for you; that’s not a very demanding light. The best all-purpose 18650 cell is probably the Sanyo NCR18650GA cell. 3500mAh, 10 amp max continuous drain. Great capacity, and good for everything except high-drain multi-emitter lights. Just get the regular flat-top, you don’t need a protected cell or button top for that light.

Protected 18650GA will generally fit, protected LG HJ1 from ilumn might not

If u do get protected get one with a higher trigger threshold (keeppower or Fenix for example)

Whether u want protected or not depends on how diligently u follow safe bat handling practices

And configure the biscotti on those lights at yr own risk Wink

In that flashlight and with that charger, a protected is not necessary.
Protected are more expensive than common ones.
Protected ones are no better than common ones.
Under a protection they can put a fake battery.

Buy a good brand from a trusted supplier.
Good brands … Sanyo, Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Sony …

It is not recommended, with some exceptions, ebay or aliexpress.
In Europe, I never bought but it has a good reputation, nkon.nl

Find one that is accessible to you and publish the link, we will help you.

An unprotected bat can be faked just as easily, tons of threads on fake samsungs here

As to whether the person wants a protected or not is up to the user

There are certainly some folks i would not give an unprotected bat to Wink

Thank you guys!

I’m going to buy from a greek online store

Some batteries I’m looking at:
Sanyo NCR18650GA, Panasonic NCR18650B, Sony US18650 VTC6

A couple of Samsung (25R, 30Q) were also among my choices but after so many reports about fake ones, I’m afraid to buy them. I think I’ll go for the Sanyo.

There’s another online store who claims that their batteries are 100% genuine and they’re providing (they say so) certification about it. Such a thing does exist? A battery genuineness certificate? The funny thing is that I found a customer’s review saying he bought a fake 30Q from this store, lol…

Theres no benefit to using the vtc6 in that light, that s2+ version only draws 3 amps or so

Get the 18650ga 3500 mah

Panny-B, laptop pulls, doesn’t really matter, as it’s <3A even in its beefiest off-the-rack version.

Okay, but I don’t think he was using a ’40.

5A in a S2+? That’s a curling iron…

I’d assume that any store claiming that, is probably selling fakes.

I contacted him and asked him about that “certification”. He sent me a document which contains detailed technical specifications and guidelines about safe use, charging, storage of the battery. A user’s manual actually, which doesn’t prove in any way the authenticity of the product.

Yeah, so he pulled a spec-sheet off the Internet. Proves nothing, except he’s trying to pull something over on unknowledgeable buyers.

18650GA

protected or unprotected depends on how confident u feel of never having a brain fart Wink

For protected make sure the circuit can handle 8+ amps

Keeppower rewraps a few suitable ones

No those cut off at 3 amps, u want 8amp + cutoff at least

The protected keeppower 18650GA from ilumn should work fine

The 30q will work fine though its a waste in that light

Follow the basic safety rules

I’ve bought a couple of battery orders from illumn in the past year, the last one a few months ago. Shipping was always around $15 or $16 to Canada. Have they recently jacked up the price that much? If so, it’s probably not worth buying there again. That $2 surplus per cell (I usually order 8 cells), suddenly jumps to $5 per cell!

One last thing and plz correct me if I’m wrong. Both button and flat top can be used in s2+ but a button top would have more tightest fit. Any other difference?
I’m going to use that flashlight in my bike. Especially for bike use, wouldn’t be better to have that tightest fit (so less movement of battery inside the flashlight)?

If you don’t fully trust the store you can buy from Nkon instead, prices are a bit cheaper but shipping from Netherlands may be a bit higher.

It’s possible that the button top might have a tighter fit, but I’ve never noticed a difference on my road bike between button and flat top 18650s in the S2+. Convoy uses what appear to be high quality and stiff springs. I’ve had them knocked off my bike at 20+ mph (using the wrong mount in a pinch) and hit concrete, and still not even change modes. I don’t remember if that particular incident was a flat or button top.
