Can 3x 4.2v cells be configured for 8.4v or less?

Wondering if my 3S (12.6v) 18650 battery cage could be rewired/reconfigured somehow to lower the voltage down to 8.4v or less…
If there’s any advantage to keeping the 3rd cell.

Maybe some combination of series/parallel? If not I’m planning to solder in a heavy jumper or build a dummy cell to run it in 2S.

You can run it in 3P for 4.2v. Or 3S for 12.6. Nothing else works.

If as you say.

Cancel third battery by replacing it with battery host, (no chemistry inside)

Fake wooden battery.

I do not recommend 3 x LiFePO4, they are 3.2V x 3 = 9.6 nominal and go up to 3.6 x 3 = 10.8V full charge.

Thanks!

And actually I remember that now, just wasn’t thinking :person_facepalming:

Plus I think parallel also would triple the capacity and or current, forget which.

The only way to get 8.4V is by bypassing the third cell.
3 can only be divided by 3 or by 1, not by 2.

Thanks, I’m trying to find out the input range of the driver I’m looking at using, so in the meantime I’m thinking ahead in case it won’t take 12v in.

Also looks like a fairly easy mod to reconfig the carrier to 3P, just a few short jumpers and one cell reversed in position.
