Need Tightest hotspot & Furthest thrower XM-L...

...that is no bigger than a 2x18650 standard light with decent-sized reflector. Can be 1 or 2 18650, but it needs to be a monster thrower with a super-tight hotspot.

I showed him the Super Tactics at work tonight, and he loves it, but it's not bright enough.

So go crazy, totally crazy, on suggestions. My friend at work is not satisfied with the throw of C8s. He needs to be able to carry this light on his person, just not something Mag-Lite huge.

I was thinking X8, but my set hasn't arrived yet. Also, we'll consider SST-50 lights.

*** And, we are staying in the budget realm, so no TK70 recommendations--and that's too big anyway! :p

I had - and he - had in mind something like this...

http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/sky-ray-cree-xlamp-xml-led-1000-lumen-2modes-alluminum-stainless-steel-flashlight-1186502cr123a-p-7898

But I have no experience with the bigger headers.

I like the looks of that one but I have no idea about the output.

To give sort of a background, my friend bought a cheap C8 XM-L here...

But unlike the four I ordered from different places, his fell apart and died rather quickly. So that's what puts us in this pickle.

IMO, if you want tight hotspot and far throwing flashlight, SST-50 may not be a good choice as its surface brightness is lower than the XM-L, unless you buy something like this with a big head http://www.dealextreme.com/p/trustfire-x7-sst-50-5-mode-1300-lumen-memory-white-led-flashlight-with-batteries-set-3x18650-57752 , which is quite expensive.

I don't know much about the Skyray that you posted, but my suggestion is that maybe you can buy this instead, http://www.dealextreme.com/p/fandyfire-stl-v6-cree-xm-lt6-2-mode-1000-lumen-white-led-flashlight-2x18650-3x16340-3x123a-91137

which is not only even cheaper, it also has been approved by some great reviewers here on its throw ability, brightness, and reliability.

STL-V6 is a excellent thrower, probably the best for the price. If you need something smaller - Trustfire X9 is nice, not as small as other 1x18650 lights but still smaller than 2x18650 ones..
