sharing some beamshots I took of the FT02S (XHP50.2 & SST40) variant:

1) Astrolux FT02S (4x XHP50.2 5700k) beamshot

distance to opposite building around 150 meters or 400 feet

2) Astrolux FT02S (4x SST40) beamshot

3)

Left: Astrolux FT02S (4x SST40 5000k)

Right: Astrolux FT02S (4x XHP50.2 5700k)

distance of flashlight to opposite wall ~ around 18 meters or 60 feet

Looks like the XHP50.2’s have a more even beam. I really wish they worked harder on a nicer beam profile or used an OP reflector

Out of curiosity is mateminco having a lot of production issues with this light ? I ordered decently early in November and my “Expected Shipping date” has continuously been pushed back multiple times to the point its now “Estimated to ship before January 31, 2021”. That seems umm really odd especially when I’ve had the status of “Dec 19, 2020 02:35 Our warehouse has started packing your items.” So did the person whom was “packing” my light mysteriously vanish? Facepalm

There will probably be a version 2 of this light is my guess. The sst40 and xhp50.2 are different animals and it seems like the reflector setup favors emitters with larger dies maybe?

That’s understandable due to popularity, But I also pre-ordered and the status indicated “Dec 19, 2020 02:35 Our warehouse has started packing your items.” So its just a bit perplexing that it hasn’t shipped yet or seen movement since December 19th as it did indicate their warehouse had started “packing” it.

has anyone receieved this light yet? that beamvideo (very good comparison thank you ) makes the xhp50 beam look much better. can anyone confrm this?

side note i just receieved my ea01 xhp and sst and they are my new favorite lights. the sst40 with the TIR looks like a sbt90 beam. so good.

I have. Here's the link to my post: https://budgetlightforum.com/comment/1732852#comment-1732852

Because I like big lights, my flashlightical views lean heavily toward both the extreme bright and the extreme heft.

Thanks rich buff. Looks like the xhp50 would be the only one i’d want regarding the beam profile / pattern. Problem is I waited too long and no 5700k are available. I feel 6500k is a deal breaker. I really want this light, everything is appealing except that 6500k. Even the 5700k xhp50 is too cool, but I’d deal with it for this light, if I could get it. (My ea01 xhp50 5700k looks cooler than 5700k when compared to other lights).

Not much difference between 5700K's and 6500K's. I got the supposed 5700K - too cool. SMO's make the tint shift outside the hotspot look a bit worse, but again, all subjective.

In comparison, I got a HK04 with 6500K's - side by side, maybe the HK04 is a bit cooler. Of course the HK04 has higher lumens and even more throw, though head diameters are basically the same, the HK04's cups are shallower, and has a larger hot spot. The 3 high performance 18650 cells make a big difference. I can only measure about 33 amps max out of the FT02S while at one point, measured 37 amps on the HK04 but suspect it's even higher.

Of course the FT02S is an easier light to carry.

Swapped in the SIRA20DP:

Sanded surfaces down to 2000/2500 GRIT:

Upgraded 18 AWG to 16 AWG wires:

MX-4 - little excessive for good coverage, kapton to protect larger solder joints:

Removed inner spring, added 20 AWG bypass:

Kind of surprising, did not gain much in measured tail amps, possibly 1 amp, measuring 33-34 amps on the 40T, 30T and T50. The tail bypass though made a nice difference, so I think the wires and FET mods gives the tail bypass more of a boost. It's a game of bottlenecks - improve one thing, then the next thing becomes the bottleneck.

Thanks got the info, your pony about difference in 5700 to 6500 is taken, given my 5700k ea01 seems like 6500k anyway. I have the hk04 and automatically imagined these two lights compared to each other, but ft02 definitely smaller easier to carry but with less battery performance too. Thanks Tom

So mine just arrived today. I have to say I am impressed with all the Astrolux lights I have purchased in the last year.

The SST40 5K is what I ordered with discount code. It is floody and throws far enough for my needs. I will agree with some posted a page or two back it has a bit of rings in the spill. Not a deal breaker but be aware of it as some people feel it may be a deal breaker.

This might be my walk the dogo light for a few weeks to see how well it is going to be in the long run.

I agree, they were good and have gotten better.

My green SST40 5000k arrived today, really liking it so far. Using a fully charged 40T I measured about 24A with a clamp at the tail. It has a good balance between throw/flood for my needs. The beam is a bit odd when projected onto a plain surface (flower-petal like rings on outside, dark ring halfway in with some color shifting), but that was expected based on the reflector design and not an issue to me. The notches on the head do not prevent it from rolling around on a hard flat surface, even though it looks like it might be meant to. Thermal throttle could be a bit more aggressive. I calibrated the temperature using a thermal camera as reference (22C at the time). I had it set to a limit of 40C (10 clicks, to add to the base 30), let it turbo for a while hands off, no other clicks – I manually stopped the test when the handle reached 58C, the neck right above the button was 72C, it reported 58 when having it check its own temp. I’m not sure if it ever really throttled. I have quite a few Anduril lights that calibrate and throttle fine, best to keep an eye on this one’s temp when using it.

I have the same “problem” with after calibrated temp, and config like you 40° max. And never do throttle in both light
Have xhp and sst40 both the same problem.

Im not sure, but maybe can be for anduril version?
I want the thermal proteccion work, but for now will wait to hex file with modern anduril and try to flash. Then pray.

Mine is runnlng Anduril 2 now, so thermal reg should be ok. Boy, that sounds bad for the stock UI. Again, we really don't know what version they are using, and seems like they modified it to get rid of the breathing/flicker mode on the AUX switch LED, or maybe went back to a really old version?

Version checking (15 clicks) shows 2019 12 05. Is there any way to check other version/branch information?

Anyone know when the XHP50.2 5700k-6000k will be available?

That version # sounds ok. We really have no idea at all what they are really running unless they tell us or post what they got. I dunno - maybe China restricts or scares them in posting shared files - it's always difficult, it seems, to get them to share anything.

Wheres the motivation if they can ignore being told and do what they want without penalty?

They know the terms of the freeware usage, have even been told / reminded directly. Still do not follow the rules.

Not a new tactic. People just claim ignorance when a penalty finally comes. It’s easy p-z

Freeme-

Thanks for the coupon code, ordered the green xhp50 through your link! Shipping said “will ship before February 7th”. I thought itd be in stock at this point, but not worried it will be worth the wait!

Also- thank you to user/Richbuff- there was a post he responded to me weeks ago that I can’t remember really but that had me start considering this light. Plus he raved about it and it caught my attention. Credit where it’s due.

Since the day this light was announced i was convinced I didn’t want it. Now I can’t wait for it to come in. Wierd how that happens lol.

Still waiting for my order to ship out…. pre-ordered and apparently they “started” packing my items in December but I’m thinking they got abducted or got lost. LOL

Yep, also waiting for it to ship.
Order placed on the 11th. The green SST40 5000K version.

Black sst40 5000k version appears to be in stock. It says: “In stock. Ships in 24 hours”.
While all the other options have a ‘expected’ date somewhere in first week of February.
