Firstly thanks for having me on the forum here, I have been lurking for a while and some of the advice on here helped me decide to buy a C8+ for myself however i am now looking to get a light for my wife.
I bought her a Sunwayman D40A a long time ago and it is pretty much perfect for her needs, Reasonable amount of spill / flood and a pretty good hotspot.
It is mainly used when she is down at our yard where we keep our horses. We have around 30 Acres and i have found that in max mode it can generally light up the fields enough to see where the horses are (even if it’s just a glint from their eyes)
Sadly it is a 4x AA torch and battery life is quite low compared to my 18650 light so i think i would like to go 18650 for her too. I guess the drivers and LEDs have come a long way now.
Can anyone recomend what would be a good replacement for her? I was thinking of another C8+ as i paid less than £20 for mine shipped from Bang Good.
My requirements are:
Decent flood / throw balance
18650 (single or dual)
Easy to use
Waterproof
Decent battery life
500-1000 Lumens?
Sub £50
I have been looking at the Convoy S2 and the Sofirn SP32A V2
Any other recomendations?
Thanks for the reply. I have had a quick look at those and look good to me! I think i’m going to have to check with her what kind of thing she would like the EC03 is great power and throw / flood but wondering if it’s too much power for what she needs. I guess the EC01 would last longer too.
Ec01 is a very nice light, especially at the group buy or sale price. It runs really well on a samsung 50e and the battery lasts a long time, much longer than you would get from an 18650. Its small enough to throw in a jacket pocket and bright enough to light up a pretty big area. The xhp50.2 will give you less throw, more flood, and more total output. The sst40 will give you more throw and less total output.
The Ft03 is also a really handy light if you need to see farther but it’s a lot bigger, not really pocketable. If I were ordering one I would probably buy both to combine shipping.
EC01 bought
I ended up with the SST40 (xhp version was out of stock) in 5000k so hoping this will be nice for her. I’m just looking at getting some 21700 cells for her too, From my understanding i CAN run it on an 18650 but 21700 would be better and last longer
Yup, I use a Molicel P42a in mine, it`s perfect, but a Molicel P26A will also work (I`v tried both) but I prefer to use the 21700, seems a shame to waste all that space in the tube when it could be used for extra runtime
