Convoy C8+ with SST-20

Love how you whispered at 2minute. I have parted with all my C8s. What different between c8 and c8+

Yeah, ultimately, they are still budget lights. I tend to buy and sell or trade or give them away. I manage to always have one around. I don’t think there is much by way of compartmentally identifiable differences. And since none of them have momentary-on, they are of limited value.

Get a Nitecore P30, then. Same approximate form-factor as a C8, throwy as Hell, and a FC tailswitch.

One reason I like the GTmicro over the GTmini, despite a fuzzier beam of the ’micro, is that the ’micro has Narsim while the ’mini has Andouille.

Momentary mode with Narsim is always 100%, no muss, no fuss.

With Andouille, momentary is whatever is the current setting, and you’d have to crank it up to “turbo”, if even possible if you don’t have ceiling set to 100, before getting momentary-turbo. You might only get momentary 50 or 80% or whatever’s the default ceiling.

That’s why whenever I grab a thrower to go outside, it’s almost always the ’micro.

I was preparing to review that one—provided they are constant current.

The P30? Yeh. Most Nitecores are CC, iirr.

Here we go…

Pic, not text, but most of the way down the page, on the “Features” pic, it sez so.

They have a new one now. Nice

Literally sat here planning a C8 (non+) CW SST20 build to see what the beam is like and boom, this thread pops up!

You can set Biscotti to a single 100% only mode which just leaves sorting out a forward clicky tail switch? Though could be tiring on the thumb.

Yeah, I thought if that, but it’s still not the same. This is really good. Am happy with the light. Beam is pretty ok.

Cheers, def more motivated after seeing the video, just wondering which driver to use.

Might be a crazy thought but how about creating a momentary ‘switch’ by loosening the tailcap slightly so it still connects when you put a bit of pressure on it to move it on the threads. Then you just press the tailcap instead of the switch.
I’m gonna go try it

Go to the AliExpress link in the description and see the driver.

I did switch conversion on one of my C8s.

The 21700 P30 is a light on my radar. Thought about getting one with intentions to swap in either a 4000k sst20 or an Osram flat, depending on how the reflector and driver responded to each config.

There are mixed reviews about the reflector quality with rings or machine marks. Also, prepare your blow torch and wrenches, because they use a gallon of red locker on the bezel.

I love the form factor though. It will behave as a single mode momentary light, no matter how many times or how fast you press the switch. The mode button is also discrete and out of the way. 50mm class reflector should be deep and paired with a 21700 IMO, and this checks those boxes.

I have a few C8’s left of varying quality. One is a high quality one (Thorfire) and the others are Chinese knockoffs that I’ve extensively modified with extra heatsinking, FET drivers and XHP50.2, SST40. I like them. Cheap, extremely easy to mod, lots of parts available. The C8+ adds some extra heatsinking and integrated head (with shelf, no pill) for better thermal path. Now that you can get them in 21700 format (M21A) from Convoy, it’s even better. You can find FC switches for the C8 around I think.

Thanks  I meant which of the drivers i already have, one of which is indeed the 2.8A Convoy Biscotti driver but i’m leaning more towards a 5A linear KD driver or an L4P 4-6A A4 driver for more powah.
Also, i tried a slightly loosened tailcap as a momentary switch and while it would get me out of an emergency situation it’s no replacement for a momentary switch which was probably always going to be the obvious conclusion :person_facepalming:

BTW, where did you get the lux/lumens figures shown in the video? Are they your own measurements?
