What to do with old lights?

I’m not as active these days but still around.

I have close to a dozen older lights that i have no use for but it seems a huge waste to just throw them away. All but one still work (Convoy S2 is dead, not sure why).
But what to do with them, is there any demand if i sell them (XM-L and XM-L2 chips)? Plus being in Canada the shipping cost would probably not be cheap.

Ideas?

The same thing you do with anything you don’t want, Salvation Army, etc.

Many people are modding lights and could bring your old lights back to modern specs. Bundle them and offer them at a good price. For shipping to USA, are you located near a Chit Chats facility. Its essentially like shipping within the USA plus 1$.

BLF giveaway, give it to friends/family (if the lights work) or fix them and sell them on ebay.
I recently refurbished a bunch of older lights with new emitters and drivers and sold them off for a profit.

There might be a BLF member in the same city as you that could pick them up in person (saving shipping cost).

You might try to sell them on BLF, shipping only to Canada, and ask the buyer to buy several lights at a time so that shipping doesn't kill the deal too much.

Premium lights of the XPG/XML era are still quite good, I see no reason why you couldn’t sell on eBay or gift to neighbours or similar… I bought my Fenix LD20 in c.2011… 10 years ago… Still works (I upgraded the LED to a Nichia 219b)…

I’d still rely on good lights from that era for powercuts/vehicle tool kits/etc. Much better than an incan. Mag!

Older lights are still excellent.
My very first C8 was from Lightscastle (remember those guys?), and I never even unpacked it. Came with a XML-T6, I think, before they switched to XML2. They even had really interesting weekly giveaways on here where you had to guess a new product price.

I wouldn’t consider XML old in the world outside of BLF.

Sell Them on BLF! like others said many would mod the with new drivers and LED’s. There is a user who has an active thread looking for just such lights - either working or not at a good price.
i think you would want to message him, he may be interested? he helped me fix my light, very nice person.
Here:

18650 lights are not something most consumers would be able to use.
AA/AAA lights, different story

What an interesting idea, i had never heard of them.

I would be selling as is, though i have some modding parts i can also sell.
I would prob sell on BLF not interested in dealing with ebay.

While i prefer not to state my location anyone in Canada is welcome to PM me and see if they are nearby.

I have considered this, gonna post some pics

Gifting them is not going to work as few have 18650s and chargers.

I posted on that thread, thanks.
I have considered doing a giveaway if the winner will pay for shipping.

This is most of them, there might be a few more

I thought i had a Convoy S2 that is not working but i might have recycled it with the e-waste a while back. Or its just hiding, knowing that i plan to sell it.

Awesome! Old lights are never truly old. I see some gems in there. Xm-l can be swapped for 50.2, sst40, sst70, and xp-g can be swapped for xp-l or 219, sst20, LH351D so lots of mod options. I see a Convoy M1 or M2 clone in there, plus the X6 and the those thorfires, which are good lights. I say bindle them and sell as a lot. Shopping to US may not be so bad. Put them on Facebook Marketplace even?

I like those mod parts.

Honestly, I’d be interested in a few of those. The sipiks are hard to find good versions of these days.

The Thorfires, the X6, and the US handle light look like fun mods to me.

I am going to check everywhere tomorrow for any other lights then decide how to do this.
It probably makes sense to sell a few lights to a buyer unless they are nearby, and the modding parts to one person?

Does anyone know how to determine Canadian shipping costs without going to a post office (which is probably closed anyways)?

Canada post has an online calculator.
https://www.canadapost-postescanada.ca/information/app/far/business/findARate?execution=e1s1
If you bring the package to a post office they will measure/weigh it and give you shipping options.

If you know the names of the flashlights that you want to sell, be sure to include that info in your sales thread.

That way people can look them up to see if they want them.

Thanks, i can weigh it myself with my kitchen scale.

Thats a good idea, a separate thread, i can toss a short description onto each light as well.

I see some Gems!

If Scallywag doesnt take or get those two - the Thorfire and X6, i will pay you for them including shipping. Definite potential and beautiful lights.

I bought a light from someone in Canada, and I think it was 10bux with tracking, so it’s not terribly unreasonable.

Depends on what you want for each light (individual or bundled), and anything would beat just tossing ’em out, as long as it covers your costs and aggravation.

Bundling would be cheapest, is, split shipping costs among several lights. Eg, 4 lights vs 1 might only double shipping (extra weight) vs quadrupling it.
