I have close to a dozen older lights that i have no use for but it seems a huge waste to just throw them away. All but one still work (Convoy S2 is dead, not sure why).
But what to do with them, is there any demand if i sell them (XM-L and XM-L2 chips)? Plus being in Canada the shipping cost would probably not be cheap.
Many people are modding lights and could bring your old lights back to modern specs. Bundle them and offer them at a good price. For shipping to USA, are you located near a Chit Chats facility. Its essentially like shipping within the USA plus 1$.
BLF giveaway, give it to friends/family (if the lights work) or fix them and sell them on ebay.
I recently refurbished a bunch of older lights with new emitters and drivers and sold them off for a profit.
You might try to sell them on BLF, shipping only to Canada, and ask the buyer to buy several lights at a time so that shipping doesn't kill the deal too much.
Premium lights of the XPG/XML era are still quite good, I see no reason why you couldn’t sell on eBay or gift to neighbours or similar… I bought my Fenix LD20 in c.2011… 10 years ago… Still works (I upgraded the LED to a Nichia 219b)…
I’d still rely on good lights from that era for powercuts/vehicle tool kits/etc. Much better than an incan. Mag!
Older lights are still excellent.
My very first C8 was from Lightscastle (remember those guys?), and I never even unpacked it. Came with a XML-T6, I think, before they switched to XML2. They even had really interesting weekly giveaways on here where you had to guess a new product price.
I wouldn’t consider XML old in the world outside of BLF.
Sell Them on BLF! like others said many would mod the with new drivers and LED’s. There is a user who has an active thread looking for just such lights - either working or not at a good price.
i think you would want to message him, he may be interested? he helped me fix my light, very nice person.
Here:
I thought i had a Convoy S2 that is not working but i might have recycled it with the e-waste a while back. Or its just hiding, knowing that i plan to sell it.
Awesome! Old lights are never truly old. I see some gems in there. Xm-l can be swapped for 50.2, sst40, sst70, and xp-g can be swapped for xp-l or 219, sst20, LH351D so lots of mod options. I see a Convoy M1 or M2 clone in there, plus the X6 and the those thorfires, which are good lights. I say bindle them and sell as a lot. Shopping to US may not be so bad. Put them on Facebook Marketplace even?
I am going to check everywhere tomorrow for any other lights then decide how to do this.
It probably makes sense to sell a few lights to a buyer unless they are nearby, and the modding parts to one person?
Does anyone know how to determine Canadian shipping costs without going to a post office (which is probably closed anyways)?
I bought a light from someone in Canada, and I think it was 10bux with tracking, so it’s not terribly unreasonable.
Depends on what you want for each light (individual or bundled), and anything would beat just tossing ’em out, as long as it covers your costs and aggravation.
Bundling would be cheapest, is, split shipping costs among several lights. Eg, 4 lights vs 1 might only double shipping (extra weight) vs quadrupling it.
