What new flashlight did you get that you didn't need... just for fun?

I already have a Lumintop BLF FW3A that I enjoy a great deal. I really didn’t need another one, especially after getting its little brother the FWAA in copper. But I couldn’t help myself. The LM10 grew on me (I didn’t like it at first). The core is great. The body is a bit different. And there’s trit slots that I hope to fill once tritium vials come back down to more sensible prices. I was itching to get a BLF LT1, Emisar DT8, or a Convoy L21B… but this discount deal was too good to pass up. 23% off. Yeah, it’s a bling light, but I think it won’t be too difficult to unload down the road if I decide I don’t like it.

So what’s your latest flashlight indulgence, something you didn’t need but just had to have?

1. I originally bought a Brass D4V2 because I thought it would look cool. It did. The e21a emitters in 2700k look great in general and pair well with brass.

2. But now I wanted ultimate power; I wanted to start fires. So I ordered a black one in aluminum with XPL-HI 5000k emitters.

3. By the time the second light came, I realized that I was in love with the e21a 2700k emitter and that I needed a lighter version for EDC (I wouldn’t personally EDC the brass)

4. While ordering the aluminum 2700k light for EDC, I became enamored with the aesthetics of the titanium version because with the silver body and white backlit button, it would “match” any auxilary light color I chose…so I have that coming too with 4500k e21a emitters.

Pls someone send help

Noctigon KR1. Beautiful and useless. To make it more interesting, I gave it a ww hcri xp-l. But maybe, one fine day there will be a NW SFT40 to make it useful for me.

Smile, you cannot kill them all.

Well, it’s not 100% brainless for me… I try to limit the cost & also pick something I see reselling in the future without taking too much of a hit on it.

Why is a thrower useless? Do you live in a giant city? I love my taking my throwers on walks. Speaking of useless, I have been trying and failing to come up with a potential use for the K9.3. Don’t have one yet, but it is just beautiful.

Those Noctigons are great hosts… I don’t know a lot about the modding prospects, but if it’s not too difficult to upgrade emitters then something like a KR1 could stay relevant for many years to come.

In the end i could make do with two flashlights, a Convoy M1 and Olight i3e (keychain).

The rest are technically not needed, Convoy M3C (lumen monster) P30 (thrower), Olight S20 (convenient pocketable and back magnet), Wurkkos WK30 (UV), Xtar RC2 (lantern/flashlight hybrid) and so forth.

I did buy two extra Xtar RC2s before they were discontinued and they float around as they are my most used light and it works better to have extra making one easier to find on demand.

Easy answer. Astrolux WP3, when it finally ships.

There is nothing going on 3 Km away that I need to be aware of.

Just want to see that monster beam!

You can light up Niagara Falls at night!
Or perhaps the Grand Canyon, a good part of Mount Everest, and maybe even very low clouds!

I bought a respectable zoomie some years back, even though I don't really like zoomies.

I figured, it'd be nice to have a decent zoomie, but I never use it so I don't need it.

Thinking about this further i have a few lights in the car that i don’t actually need but are there if someday there was an emergency.

Including a makeshift backup, one of these, an LED bulb and a cigarette lighter inverter

I wanted a compact zoomie that'll fit in my pocket.

I got a ThorFire TA13 from AliExpress.

It's not all that impressive despite being the best zoomie that I own.

Interesting.
I am not a big fan of zoomies. They can be fun once in a while but in general they are not very useful.

I think we all need to buy one to get it out of our systems Big Smile

Y'know what?

I said that my zoomie isn't all that impressive, but it's a good choice if you are looking for a compact zoomie.

If you want maximum throw, a much bigger zoomie is recommended.

Everything after the first, if I’m being honest with myself.

The first really good flashlight I bought was a JETBeam JET-U. I’d had a pretty decent 9×5mm LED light and a Sipik SK-68 before, but they had both died. I was amazed by how bright and how dim the JET-U could be. I remember going to meet some friends at a bonfire one night and they couldn’t believe the light they saw coming towards them was from the tiny AAA JET-U.

Pretty much every one of them but two or three...probably just two.

I just bought an Olight and I feel a little dirty.  Little 16340 Baton model, taking advantage of sale prices and coupons plus two free gift lights...really I just wanted to buy a couple of their accessories but apparently could not order just those because of a vague hidden dollar minimum.  First light I've bought without looking up reviews and such, and after placing the order I read in the manual that the battery is not supposed to be removed from the light (?) and is inserted in the opposite direction/polarity from normal (tailcap mag charging).  If I'm not thrilled with it, it will make a nice holiday gift for someone (probably the same with the freebies).

First I bought horrible sub-junk. I suffered through it for decades of my life. Then I discovered reasonable quality flashlights. I bought reasonable quality, hot rod flashlights that I wanted, but that I didn't need. Finally I got around to getting a flashlight that I needed, S2 Baton. Then I continued with more flashlights that I wanted, but didn't need. Then I continued with new offerings of Baton size lights that offered more hot rodness. Then I continued again with more huge power throwers and huge dedicated throwers that I don't need. My current light that I need is the Emisar D4V2 Vn 4 x W2.

The most recent new flashlight that I got that I wanted that I didn't need is the Lumintop FW21a Pro Vn triple SBT90.2.

The next light that I am going to get that I don't need is the Acebeam X50.

I like small, medium, big and huge flooders, throwers and power throwers, in vast middle price range. I have not yet gotten into jewelry class lights.

Lights that other people like: I have nothing against them. Nor the people.

The variety of lights that I like: There are lots of people who don't like them.

That has been my mini-EDC light of choice. I don’t like the cool tint beam, but it’s a nice intensity, 3 useful modes, and it just looks so damned cool with the body design and very dark brown anodizing. Picked up a few at $12 a pop from AliExpress 2 years ago. Now? They’re averaging $20. For good reason, IMHO.

Basically….every light apart from 2x Convoy S2+ and 2x C8, and a Skilhunt E3A.

The rest are just wants, not needs.

I just don’t need that range. My dog does not run away usually, but if he does, the Olight R50 (and sometimes a Sofirn C8F) is all it takes. For fun, I have a 16340 Zoomie with white flat (love that one) and, at the other extreme, a XHP35 thrower.

I plan to sell a large number of lights, but from all lights I do not use, the KR1 and the Emisar D4V2 will stay.

Smile, you cannot kill them all.

Yes. Hank Wang itself does product maintenance. If I’m not mistaken, there is or will be a SFT40 KR1 with an appropriate driver. The latter is glued, but I think it’s possible to obtain it from him and replace it.

Got this small Lumintop lantern during the Father’s Day Sale on Neals Gadgets.

I already have the bigger Sofirn lantern, the Orange one. And I have planned to buy the new version Sofirn lantern, the popular Green.

So the Lumintop is mostly just for admiration. It is cute. But for practical purposes, the bigger Sofirn lantern is much brighter and more useful.
