What is your budget?
Also are you doing this as a hobby or do you want/need this flashlight for something in particular?

If you have the money and need it for something very far away a LEP is your best bet. If you need it for something but can do with less there are lights like the Nitecore P30x and alternatives that can give you up to a kilometer and if its for a hobby or you must have lower cost then i’m sure others will have interesting suggestions for you.

The Journal of Alternative Facts TM

"It is critical that there is a credible academic source for the growing and important discipline of alternative facts. This field of study will just keep winning, and we knew that all the best people would want to be on board. There is a real risk in the world today that people might be getting their information about science from actual scientists"

this is as a hobby, i would rather avoid a host and just build a full diy flashlight. i may try a Fresnel lense since those have gotten much cheaper with the rise of VR
