Convoy S2/S2+ forward clicky switches

Anyone know where I can get forward clicky switches for an S2 and S2+?

I wish…

Probably not the metal ones, but you might find an Omten that would fit in the rubber-dome switch.

Let me know if you do.

Actually I’m not sure it would do what I want, which is momentary-on. I think it would just allow mode-selecting without turning the light on

Simon store, Convoy!

You just need to solder them. Or try asking Simon if he can send you them soldered.

Thats what I use in most of my Convoys (with rubber tailcap) and a dozen of other lights!

Awesome, thanks!

Ah, there ya go…

Fwiw, you can get used to FC with a normal RC-based driver. I had a WK50 for quite a while. You just learn to select the mode on turn-on, then leave it. If you want to change it, turn off the light, bap the switch ’til it’s the brightness you want, then press the rest of the way to “lock it in”.

I asked Simon about that and he just said: “Oh no, it cannot.” Have no idea why we never get Convoy double-switch with momentary features. And it’s been years.

I’m not sure I understand this, because what was being mentioned above was not about double-switches.

Just to make it clear on my mind, you’d want a Convoy light with 2 switches, one being e-switch and one being Forward clicky switch to allow momentary on?

I am not sure if the S9 allows that (if a clicky tailcap was added), but maybe not :zipper_mouth_face:

I got a coupla S2+es with 1-mode drivers and shoehorned-in FC switches. Only 1A or so, as the switches were a bit dodgy and undersized. “Utility lights”.

I asked Simon to put a FC button in my M1 and the nice man obliged.

Does Simon not sell fw clickies that fit the S2+?

To be honest, I never looked into it but now I kind of want one.

He does, the ones I linked above.
There are 2 options.
a) these are the switches only (batch of 5), you need to get a PCB and a spring or button and solder the switch there.

b) this is the whole pack (batch of 2), unsoldered, that you need to solder all together, and it will fit the S2 and S2+ .

Very cool - thanks MascB! Next time I order some more S2’s from Simon I will see if he can put fwd clickies in for me

No problem
I have more than 10 lights with FW switches, not only convoys. But all my switches are bought from Simon.
I solder them in different PCBs depending on what I need. It may be tricky, sometimes, but in general you won’t have issues.

I asked Simon to put a FW switch only once, but he did it.

Please note that the metal or plastic spacer between the switch and the rubber cap needs to be different from the lights using reverse switches.
Also, I normally cut the inner “tongue” of the rubber tailcaps since the FW switch is taller than the reverse switches.

:+1:

so i ordered one because why not, but what will actually happen if i put it in? will momentary on work, and will mode changing be affected?

Does the current Biscotti driver work well with forward switches?

Yes. Depending on the driver and its configurations (in case it has a programmable UI), the FW switch will allow momentary mode.
You half press for momentary ON in one mode, you make followed half presses to change modes while in momentary ON, and you make a full click if you want to lock the chosen mode.

If you teh driver has a UI with double click for strobe (or turbo or other blinky mode), you can also use double half press to have that momentary mode, too.

Yes it does work with Biscotti, but I am not sure how the new drivers work.
I have a driver with Biscotti in my Convoy T2 and I use a FW switch. The driver is configured on mode 5 (1 >20 > 100%) without memory, so it always turns ON in the lowest mode.
I belive the others can be used similarly and if you configure it have memory for the last used mode, when you half press it, it will turn as momentary ON in that last used mode.

Does not fit the S2+. Not enough space, even accounting for my cackhanded soldering.

It has to fit. You probably need to enlarge the hole of the metal “spacer” (if it has one) and you need to cut the protruding part of the rubber tailcap (inside).
Unless you are using a S2+ with metal tailcap and in that case…it won’t fit!

Does it fit the S2? On the outside, the tailcaps of the S2 and the S2+ are pretty much the same. The internals are totally different. AND they are interchangeable

I am not sure if the new versions of the host allow that as there were some changes in the threads.
Still, the older ones probably fit (my “older” S2 and the S2+ I have, can be interchanged).
