I was just wondering if someone here had a source on IR leds (cree preferred, since all my optics match that)
I wish to build a dual led flashlight for my AR (will have switch between XP-G and a IR led), but i was some serious power for outdoors in the IR (basically XR-E to XP-G power)
The project (once completed) will be posted on here.
My ideas will be kept secret for now to see if it works, if it does the way I want, i may apply for a design patent (its just that different lol)
in the mean time, i havent had time to search for a Cree IR Led on a small circuit board.
I guess you're doing a night vison appliance with some tweaked camera. I have searched untill nauseum for a decentyl bright IR led. Found nothing that would exceed a lets say Cree Q5. Probably the manafont dropin is the single most bright budgret reflectored IR emitter. Btw, almost all IR emitters (perhaps all in budget range) some minimal red light will always be present. Beware if stealth is desired.
Lightobject has some 5 watt leds on a standard starboard. That's the brightest I've seen for a single led. I have several and they give a uniform flood but IR leds have a wide beam so throw is a problem. The ATN illuminators use big optics to get decent throw - which makes it a bit too bulky to use on a standard flashlight base.
Also, mounting several leds in a Trustfire 1200-type reflector gives good throw, but the spill blooms and washes out all but 3rd gen night vision equipment. It's a fixable problem, but it gets bulky.
They're a little more expensive but you don't have to worry about the China shipping problems.
a q5 would work for me if someone knows where to grab just the emitter on board.
the spill will be non-issue for the gen 1+ im getting. its for outdoor use. the q5 pencil beam will work great now that im thinking about it. i have a good reflector for that! lol
sometimes u want brighter, but im realizing that its not the best option to have an infrared XM-L lol
i think i might end up with what superbrightleds sells or DX (look the same)
question is a driver.....
gonna post another question too but ill add it here in case people see this first
how much current/voltage can a 3.5mm stereo jack handle. the reason I ask is my project is dual LED with a seperate power source that will TBD. however I want something I can pull off the shelf and use as a plug in case of damage
Spill will be a big issue for 1st-gen. The local spill on the ground or though foliage washes out (due to blooming) the more distant objects. Or that was the case for my 1st gens - ATN, Bushnell and Yukon models. You might want to consider digital NV, it's about the same price as a good 1st gen but you get 2nd gen+ performance. Yukon Night Ranger has excellent performance.
