Ideas for (cheap) Christmas gifts / what should I put on my wishlist?

It’s that time of year again! The office Secret Santa has been set up and I need to create a wishlist. I’m also being asked for ideas from my relatives (who are clearly more organized than I am).

So, any ideas for cool / fun / interesting things to add to a wish list?

Some possible ideas?

  • Flashlights. I’d probably get given a 3xAAA zoomie
  • Butane lighter. These look cool but I have no need for one.
  • Gadgets
  • Survival stuff. I live in the UK, the most dangerous thing we do is skipping queues.

Nice idea, thanks. I have a few multi tools (Leatherman and SAK) but don’t have a dedicated knife.

Money.

Don’t get your friend’s something they will return.

The alternative is food. Everyone loves food or desserts.

Personal coffee-mug warmer. Usually <10bux, basically a saucer that you plug in to keep your coffee-mug warm (can also be used for tea and hot chocolate, too, them clever little Choinese fellas!), and is quite handy if you’re like me and forget to chug the java while it’s still warm.

Puzzle boox (crossword, sodoko, find-a-word, etc.).

Do you mean a USB powered one? I can imagine it would need USB-PD to give enough power to keep something hot.

Naw, powered off the mains. Great for desktops, kitchen counters, etc.

Like one of these

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FL5V5NU/

only do the .co.uk on your end and find something similar.

Ridiculous how the pricier ones have “automagic temperature control and smart this and smart that. Feh. Cheap heating element on a metal plate is all you need.

A handy “edc” pen, like a Zebra F-701 (<$10), Parker Jotter ($20), Space Bullet ($25). Add a memo pad or refills (couple more bucks).

I didn’t know you can get mains powered ones. That looks much more useful!

I like that idea, thanks. I’ve not gone down the rabbit hole of quality pens yet. https://www.reddit.com/r/pens looks like it could get expensive…

And with Zebra F-701 you need Zebra F-402 (like I understand F-701+F402= Zebra FxMD)
explained here

And of course Fisher Space Pen Refill

Nah, there is no need for the F-701/F-402 mod any more. For the last 2 years or so, the F-701 has been sold as an “All-Metal version”. Zebra Pen website

I got my cats a nice squooshy bed each, for upcoming chilly weather, and I can’t bribe them to even sit in it. Once I saw one in it, but never again. My other one, I pick him up to try to put him in it, and his arms’n‘legs go outstretched and he’s yowling “Nooooooo!!!” the whole time.

Also got a “crinkle-tunnel”, thinking they’d play in that. Pffft, yeah. I leave the brown “butcher-paper” that Chewy uses as box-filler, and they’ll both dive into that, but pay good money for something real for them to play in, and nope.

That said, a hand-warmer, or two (one for each hand). Especially the ones that double as power-banks, like, why not?

Catnip!! That’ll get em to where you want in a hurry. LOL I dunno but they just go crazy all of a sudden when they sniff catnip. It’s like fentanyl for cats or something. Big Smile

Alonefire S11 keychain light, each costs about US$10 during this BF sale is to be considered. If you want more, you can go to Alibaba.com to order in bulk (50 or 100 pieces, each costing around US$5).

Also quite nice is the Sofirn C01S mini-flashlight, which comes in different four or five colours, each one is about US$8.15 (I bought two, one Tan and one Blue on Lazada Singapore last night for S$11 each).

A monetary donation (in the recipient’s name) to a favorite non-profit, like your local humane society, a food bank, etc.

Happy holidays, flashaholics! Big Smile

I’m disgusted with the stuff.

Petco had their Leaps’n‘Bounds brand, decent size jar, that even the dregs from like 3yrs ago still has a nice pungent smell. No more. They don’t sell it at all, not in-store and not online. Now all they carry is grossly overpriced teeny envelopes of the stuff with cutesy names like “Meow-juana”.

So I tried Amazon. Huge bag of supposedly organical catnip. Pungent smell… for like 3 days. Didn’t even smell like catnip, but something else, nfi what. Looked like sawdust. Probably was sawdust, sprayed with catnip-juice. Returned it (and for me to return something, it really has to suck).

So, still on my quest…
