Budget benchtop multimeter

For my projects I have a simple Multimeter I bought for a ~40 USD and it is good enough for my uses.
I want a benchtop multimeter since it is more convenient but unfortunately all options are super expensive.
Is it possible to get reasonable quality benchtop multimeter for around 50 USD why does it so much more expensive then regular multimeter? Isn’t it the same product plus a power supply?

The cost of the switching power supply adds a lot to what’s in a handheld. At the low end, you’re right, some units are not a whole lot more than a handheld multimeter, but some are. You’re also not guaranteed the same accuracy or safety, but as you go up in price you get those and most likely much better accuracy, resolution, and connectivity with scopes and computers, etc.

I haven’t looked in awhile but the Uni-T lower end unit used to be around $100-$120 here in the US. Quick browse on aliexpress and banggood shows this Aneng, which looks like a low- to middle-quality handheld in a box, but reviews are ok and if the specs are honest it’s fine for general use…runs on two 18650 and looks like something I would not use for any A/C work. Might ask Freeme if he can get you a discount code for it…$77 without cells at BG. Aliexpress pricing is really wonky lately with so many shipping price games, that I’m seeing for the US, anyway.

Aneng AN888S (can’t seem to get a non-US url address for you, sorry).

Thanks, I only need it for very simple tasks, nothing too fancy, mostly connectivity check aka Diode mode

Correllux your link didn’t make it properly on to the post. Must have gotten broken across a line break.

Edited to correct….and here for convenience. Not sure about this one, though, would want to scout out reviews from people who know a little.

Does HKJ review bench units? I’m on mobile and my phone doesn’t like his site.
