[Review] Convoy M21F SFT40 pocket thrower

Hello everyone!

I just finished my video review of newest design Convoy pocket thrower M21F with SFT40 LED.
Hope you will enjoy watching (if you liked video, please subscribe, more reviews are coming… ). As always suggestions and questions are welcome

Man, bummer. I’ve been hoping for a review of this light. 5 min into the video and it boots me and the video is set to private. Looking forward to it getting republished.

I am very sorry. I have to rerender video, as youtube killed h.265 quality. Please allow me 30mins and it will be live again. I am very sorry for inconvenience.

No need to apologize, I can’t imagine how much work these must be. I very much appreciate what you do for the rest of us by taking the time to do these reviews. I look forward to the re-rendered result.

1 Thank

It is live. Thanks for waiting. Seems youtube don’t like my color corrections. In my original file quality looks 2x better, maybe it is because it just got uploaded. Will see in one week how it looks. If same quality will stay, I will have to make less corrections in my editing.

Thanks for the review! I love the looks of the M21F. I’m going to try to order it with the GTFC40.

Thanks for watching. I am waiting for S11 with that LED, will post review after I receive and test in

Great job on the video. Love all the info in the relatively short time.

I was considering the same thing, but it may be more of a thrower than I want. If Simon made something like the S21d with a side switch, I’d be all over it. Still, I will probably pick up something hi-cri from him, and this has a lot going for it.

M21F with GT FC40 should throw less than SFT40.

Thanks for the very detailed review. I’m impressed with the regulation and run times! I just bought the M21F with GT-FC yesterday. Can’t wait to test it.

Nice job. Thanks for the review.

I love a light with good regulation and flat runtime charts.

Although not unexpected, it is still worth noting how much better runtimes are for 21700-fueled flashlights compared to their 18650 brethren.

As I’ve covered many times in my Convoy reviews, there’s no further stepdown below High no matter how hot it gets, this is both a pro and con depending on the model. The 4X18A exceeds 80°C before I activated a fan and it was only 2/3 through. Tried to get this changed, but all the enthusiasts here disagreed. Great for us, but try running a store like myself and this is a major problem.

Wait, what?!!!

Why wouldn’t you have thermal regulation by default?!!

It’s a bit risky for the LEDs, but a bit more risky for the internal cells themselves since thermal path is very good.

Yes, that is what 1lumen were also concerned about when they discovered this in a review. Simon doesn’t seem to see the problem which is a little frustrating. I mentioned this on my Z1 review and the CULPM1 with 8A driver hit 73°C. Told Simon and he said he’d test it, only to still see it as an option.

After the stepdown it’ll increase in output once cooled below 65°C, but it won’t drop below 40% no matter the temp.

The problem with Simon listening to members on this forum, is most are only thinking of themselves, not the average user

Well, I ended up ordering the S21D (219b) and M21F (GT-FC40). If I could only combine them lol.

As for the temp step down below 40%, I can see both sides of this. I have a TM11 that can get flesh searingly hot, and I’ve had some close calls with burning myself on it. On the other hand, if you are holding the light while using I, it should be a non-issue, the human is three thermal sensor. You see a lot of hysteresis with many thermally regulated lights, and that seems like it would be very annoying, but if the thermal stepdown capability already exists in the light, it’s a shame not to have some kind of safety limit. On the other hand, my Thrunite lights don’t appear to have any thermal regulation and they some of my favorites.

I updated the post with measurements from lab integrating sphere. Info added at the end of the post.
